Which show do you think has the best chorus group?
The actors of the URINETOWN (OBC) have to be my favorite. They all have so much energy, and they all have excellent comedic timing which makes the show!

I wouldn't presume to say it's the BEST chorus, but I *do*I love the chorus of Evita.
I think that I would enjoy an album (oops, CD) of nothing but Act One finales. Big, splashy chorus laden numbers. Love 'em.

Chess has some wonderfull choral work.
But possibly the greatest choral work I've heard would be in Suessical, now that stuff is so much fun!

In terms of best ensemble in a recording, I would have to say Aida, and The Phantom Of The Opera. The best ensembles that I have ever heard live were the ensembles for Dance Of The Vampires, and Les Miserbales.
See Ya!

My favorite ensemble work is:
YGMCB revised
Urinetown
and
Wild Party, lippa (even if it is minimal, it has some wonderfull interactive segements.
Are we talking about writting, sound, ensemble, or true chorus here?
I forgot that Im beging to think Sweeny has a wonderfull chorus.

Posted: 10/21/03 at 10:27pmA good chorus is what completes a show. I know everyone always says this, but I have to say Hairspray has a great chorus. Always so energetic. There are sooo many great chorus groups I can not think of them all!

Gotta agree with Kev on this one -- CHICAGO.
But then again, did anyone think I was going to say anything else? ![]()
I also have to second, third and fourth Urinetown.

Chicago is amazing but I also agree that each person is featured.
The chorus of AIDA is also pretty amazing.
The best on cd is definately Children of Eden. Some of that work is brilliant.

URINETOWN, I gotta agree, a great ensemble.
THE PRODUCERS, the chorus made that show, I especially liked the beer and pretzel girls.
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, my all time favorite, I love 'em all.
I'm looking forward to seeing NEVER GONNA DANCE, with 3 Millie alums, and WICKED.

Although I didn't love the show completely, the ensemble singing in TITANIC was some of the most glorious I've heard in years.
The entire cast (featured and ensemble) of the last revival of FIDDLER (w/ Topol) was one of the most cohesive I've ever seen.
And my first Broadway show (revival of Sweet Charity w/ Miss Debby Allen) had an extraordinary ensemble of dancers.

"And my first Broadway show (revival of Sweet Charity w/ Miss Debby Allen) had an extraordinary ensemble of dancers."
Sadly, I failed to see that, but I bet I would agree...and since two of them are currently in the Chicago chorus, that gets my vote.
And I'm also thinking the Never Gonna Dance ensemble will be highly enjoyable.
The Urinetown tour's chorus was terrific, as well.

Posted: 10/22/03 at 6:54pmUrinetown, because each actor gets a chance to shine, and Hairspray, because they work their butts off.

Posted: 10/22/03 at 8:55pmI was waiting for someone to say 42nd Street. That is a completely under-estimated chorus. THEY work their asses off. Hairspray, too, but I have never seen an ensemble look so together and impressive than that ensemble.

Gotta agree about 42nd STREET. They are perfectly in snyc every time, never a straggler. Super impressive!
