DRS/ Avenue Q
I didn't stop laughing!!!
i saw the producers then DRS and i was in a very good mood by the end of the night. that was a good day.
Original productions of NINE and DREAMGIRLS. One day I'd love to re-experience!
Beat this one:
bare (matinee)
The Normal Heart (eve)
Yeah, that was an incredible Sunday.
Just saw Spelling Bee Matinee and won the lottery for DRS for the evening. Spelling Bee was good, but suffered by comparison to DRS.
I would imagine Avenue Q and almost anything in 1 day would be great.
Bare matinee/ Tick Tick Boom in NJ eve
and recently:
Golden Age matinee/ Good Vibrations eve

a couple weeks ago i had the pleasure of going to drs in the afternoon and dessa rose in the evening. it was simply lovely!
Oh, I love to do this when I'm in the city! Best combo ever for me was Metamorphoses and Urinetown.
Because I am sent by radio stations/newspapers to do reviews I have to cover 2 shows whatever days possible but I don't usually get to choose the shows. It all depends which ones comp tkts are avaialble for. Some of the combos have been:
URINETOWN / THE GOAT
OKLAHOMA! (R) /INTO THE WOODS (R)
FOOTLOOSE / ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (R)
ART / SCARLET PIMPERNEL
RAGTIME / 1776 (R)
STEEL PIER / JEKYLL & HYDE
CHICAGO (R) / WHEN PIGS FLY
GUYS & DOLLS (R) / MOST HAPPY FELLA (R)
PACIFIC OVERTURES (R) / SWEENEY TODD (NYCO)
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA / LES MISERABLES
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES / CATS
EVITA / SUGAR BABIES
AMADEUS / MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG
and.. just because FB did late shows on Saturday at 10:30 PM...
GYPSY (R) / CITY OF ANGELS / FORBIDDEN BROADWAY (missed beginning due to CITY lasting to about 10:30)
SWEENEY TODD (R) / A CHORUS LINE / FORBIDDEN BROADWAY
3 shows in aday is a bit much but with FB it's not such a harship.
BTW if you are planning a trip to NYC for a week, arrive Wednesday morning and leave late the following Wednesday or early Thursday morning..you can concievably see 12 shows! (2 on Wed, Sat Sun and Wed plus 1 a day Thu, Fri, Mon & Tues.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I've done 'doub;e' headers a few times. One was Avenue Q and then The Producers. ANother was Hairspray and SOMETHING, but I can't recalled what. Then, there was this one Sunday where I went to both shows of Little Shop. Hehe.
well i am only in new york every other blue moon...luckily there was just one. i saw la cage sat afternoon and then chitty saturday night....wondeful day...not to mention before that i met the producers for wicked, spamalot, and drs...
I will always kick myself for not seeing La Boheme and Rent back to back....
I did see Miss Saigon and The Will Rogers Follies in one day about a week after the '91 Tonys, that was a trip. I doubt I could have picked more disparate shows.

HAIRSPRAY & CHICAGO.
Good books, funny shows, fantastic stagings and probably the two best scores on Broadway right now.
I have done this twice.
August 13, 2003: Gypsy @ 2PM, Nine @ 8PM
July 10, 2004: Caroline, or Change @ 2PM, Aida @ 8PM
Both experiences were fantastic!

hmmmm. I do this 3 or 4 times a year.
It has to be the time I saw "Les Miserables" in the second row orchestra center followed that evening with box seats for Brian Dennehy in the "Death of a Salesman".
Honorable mention to "Lion King" followed by box seats to "Proof."
I have to mention this because of certain factions on the board: I'm nuetral on the former and a big fan of the latter but one Saturday last fall I saw "Brklyn" followed by "Wicked" that evening.
The all time worst was "Footloose" followed by Reba McIntyre and Tom Wopat's understudy in "Annie Get Your Gun."

Les Miserables matinee, Kiss Me Kate in the evening. THE most awesome day ever. It was for my 12th birthday, I was in Broadway Heaven!!! >>>>
Heh.
It wasn't my birthday but I've done this combination. It was a very good theater day...top ten.

NINE/HAIRSPRAY
DRS/700 SUNDAYS
WOOLF/GLENGARRY - YESTERDAY 5/4!
All three were incredible days.
How did you like Woolf and Glengarry? I am dying to see Glenngarry--the cast sounds amazing. Loved the movie, although it was difficult to watch.
WOOLF absolutely blew me away. it took me awhile for Bill Irwin to capture me however, though he did by the end. Kathleen Turner is Martha... absolutely enervating production, felt like i was sparring with them for every minute of it. Glengarry was great, but the cast struck me as a bit off. Alda, Clapp and Schreiber(must win the tony)- were the strongest , while Tambor, Wopat, and Weller seemed uncomfortable. Set design was incredible. The show , while busy, seemed heavily papered. just an observation. A wonderful day of theater. One of the best I've ever had. Last three shows ive seen: Woolf, Doubt and Glengarry. Its been awhile since i've done musical theater, im hoping to catch Bee, Piazza and DRS(again).
Ah...Forbidden Broadway and Avenue Q!! By the end of the night my muscles were sore from all the hilarity!
An ideal fantasy day would be Take Me Out and Love! Valour! Compassion! Of course, never was possible as they didn't play at the same time, but can you imagine!
