Best Musical: Who Will Get That Final Slot

Everyone knows In The Heights and Passing Strange are going to get nominations. Xanadu also seems like a lock at this point. Catered Affair and Young Frankenstein are fighting for that final spot. Mermaid doesn't have a chance. Which show do you think will get that spot? My opinion is that Frankenstein will get it because it has more going for it. It has hilarious jokes, an interesting story, awesome choreography, a great star studded cast that delivers, and high scale sets and costumes. Together it is a wonderfully packaged show. Catered Affair has a so so story, no knockout performances, not great songs, and just falls flat in general.

Anyway that was my opinion. Your Opinion?

im guessing this is why wickedrocks started the official Tony nomination thread..to avoid excess threads related to the nominees.

I think YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is the better show, but CATERED AFFAIR will probably get the slot, which is fine by me.

I still don't believe YF will get snubbed, so I think it's going to go to YF.

i think it will definitely be a catered affair, because it was nominated for a drama desk and it seems to be more of a "quality" show than frankenstein

A Catered Affair will most likely get it.

But I would be so happy if it went to Young Frankenstein.

A CATERED AFFAIR has at least two knockout performances from Prince and Wopat and a beautiful score.

I'm hoping it's A CATERED AFFAIR.
Remember none of those tour people are on the nominating commitee.

A CATERED AFFAIR, because, in a season where shows trying to copy the success of other shows (CRY-BABY, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN) have been disappointing, the voters will want to choose something that'll make them look the best, that's the most respectable.

re: Best Musical: Who Will Get That Final Slot

I'm not wild about Passing Strange, so I'm hoping it will get the snub and YF and A Catered Affair with both get noms.

But, if that doesn't happen I'm hoping YF will get the slot.

Heathurr may be onto something.
After looking at the list of nominators (a few are retirees) They may not "get" PASSING STRANGE, and snub it.

If YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN gets nominated it'll be despite Mel Brooks not because of him.

re: Best Musical: Who Will Get That Final Slot

I feel like it's gonna be Young Frankenstein. Out of the other 3 locks, there isn't really a "big" show, and I think it'll get it for variety's sake.

My Ideal Nominations:
In the Heights
Xanadu
Young Frankenstein
The Little Mermaid (Just for the nomination's sake)

What I'm Pretty Sure Will Happen:
In the Heights
Xanadu
Young Frankenstein (I think it's win today will lock it)
A Catered Affair/ Passing Strange (Most likely Affair)
