I just don't see Passing Strange being snubbed.

I don't see Passing Strange being snubbed, but I'd be very surprised if it won. While I can't say that I was crazy about it, it was well done and contained a lot of energy and original music. I'd be APPALLED if it wasn't nominated and YF was -- that was just a medicore (not to mention manipulative) show. PS had some originality and earnest performances. But those are just my thoughts.

I would like to agree w/you, BUSTOPHER, but I still believe it all boils down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

"Catered Affair has a so so story, no knockout performances, not great songs, and just falls flat in general."
LMAO oooooooook. That's certainly one opinion.
ACA will be nominated.

Im thinking it will be Young Frankenstein and not A Catered Affair.

A CATERED AFFAIR got ONE vote for Best Musical by the NY Drama Critics and that vote was from Clive Barnes who *really* likes rock musicals. What does that say about PASSING STRANGE?

for those who think it is possible for Passing Strange to be snubbed, I just want to remind you of something. Passing Strange was one of the best reviewed musicals of the year. It won the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for best musical. It will definitely be among the Best Musical Nominees tomorrow. I will be in utter shock if it isn't.

I would say that A CATERED AFFAIR, IN THE HEIGHTS, and PASSING STRANGE are locks.
The question is, what will get the fifth slot - YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or XANADU. While smart money is on XANADU, don't underestimate YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

Where's the potential?
Believe it or not, the voters have done a bit of growing up since 1979, when EVITA - which got horrendous reviews - won Best Musical. Just look at WICKED vs AVENUE Q.

Bad shows still win Tonys. Nothing has changed.

I think that this is how it would be in terms of the nomonations
Passing Strange
Xanadu
In The Heights
A Catered Affair.
Granted I haven't seen A Catered Affair and its flaws are doing a good job of keeping me away from seeing it. But, I would rather see the Nom go to it then to Young Frankenstein.
Keep in mind that the producers can't be that manipulative anymore. Gone are the days when the Tony crew can accept bribes for votes. So after the noms are out it shall be interesting to see who wins for what come the day of the awards.

Correct. Though you are clearly biased, jrb.
I still think A CATERED AFFAIR is a lock.

Nope. I don't always defend shows I work on. And I gain nothing from this.
