There's a thread about best composer, so I figured...

This is not your favorite show. It is the show that you think has the most flawless score.

My vote is for "A Little Night Music".

Into The Woods' score has a constant theme throughout the show, yet it is different. The same theme has different moods to it. Mysterious, saddened, adventurous, fantasy, harmonious, and beautiful throughout.

"Candide" also has what I would consider a flawless score.

I also think that THE MIKADO, THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, and LA BOHEME are also flawless.
*edit: And CAROUSEL comes to mind. Not as the best score ever - certainly flawless, and definitely R&H's best.

Ragtime

The counter crossing of Emma and brother in "The Night That Goldman Spoke" and "He Wanted to Say" is genius.
As is Mother's vocal transformation at the end as a symbolism of her change as a person.

This, to me, is a flawless score.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I hardly consider myself qualified to say what the best score is ever, but my favorites are West Side Story and The Music Man.

I know many would disagree, but i think the score to "Oklahoma" is flawless.

Once on this Island- i think it deserves a mention. I think its a great score.

My vote goes to the German musical "Elisabeth"...Absolutely breathtaking music, and a gorgeously written show!
