I'm really surprised that only one person mentioned "Show Boat". The score is really flawless, and the orchestrations are some of the best ever heard. Songs like "Make Believe", "You Are Love", and my personal favorite, "Bill", are sure to send chills down your spine every time you hear them.

Les Miserables while not my favorite show, has a flowingly gorgeous score. The lyrics are near perfect and the music is haunting.
Gypsy also has a great score. Every song fits the scene oh-so-perfectly. Roses Turn is one of the greatest Broadway songs ever written.
The Producers also has a very good score. It's hysterical. It has everything from rip-roaringly funny tunes to great love songs.
Into the Woods has amazing lyrics and music. You just cant beat Sondheim.
Gypsy also has a great score. Every song fits the scene oh-so-perfectly. Roses Turn is one of the greatest Broadway songs ever written.

My vote goes for Les Miserables.

I second phantom_tenor. Even though Phantom is such a well known show, I think it got that way for a reason. I am going to be stereotypical and say The Phantom of the Opera. A close second would have to be, Rent.

So what constitutes a flawless score? What would you consider a flaw? The people on this board seem to have a thorough understanding of what makes a show great or not. I am truly wondering how you know if a score is so great or not. As an example, what is so flawed with Wicked and so not with Sweeney Todd? I am truly wondering this, it's not sarcastic if it sounds it. Thanks!
