"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
To help clarify what wrq is saying: Backstage doormen work either the day shift or the evening shift. And then one takes Sunday and the other takes Monday---this is on a standard performance schedule. Shows with Monday or Sunday night shows are going to work it out differently.
The reason has to do with deliveries, maintenance, understudy rehearsals, closing the box office lobby, etc.
Thanks Jerby. I only knew that one fact; none of the specifics.

Strangely though I have seen Christine working the Wednesday matinee a few times.

I figured...it was really funny though once when I went she had one of those fold chair thingies and she was just sittting on the sidewalk. I love Christine.

Kevin Kennedy at DRS is a riot. He kept jokingly insulting my dad and started bulls***ing with him. And he gave us a tip on a good resturant to go to.

Right BSo...or you could actually meet them in places other than the stage door, become friendly, and then realize that they are a backstage doorman...then continue to talk and hang out in places other than the stage door like you did in the first place...
Sure, some people probably spend too much time stage dooring. Others spend too much time tearing apart things that one person posts and making snide remarks toward that person. It's all for the same purpose really. At the stage door, one may feel better about himself after talking to an actor for a bit. One may also feel better about himself by constantly making snide remarks or putting down a person. Whatever floats your boat.

I have to agree about Kevin at the Imperial and Christine at Sweeney Todd...Kevin is hysterical. There were these girls from Florida the last time I saw DRS, and they took a picture with him while we were all waiting for John Lithgow and Norbert to come out (it was John Lithgow's last day).
Thank you Wickedmimi. If I get back to NYC to see Jersey Boys before the guys leave, and David is there, I definitely have to get a pic with him. Lol. He's the best.
I went to Sweeney on Tuesday might and had great fun talking with Christine about everything under the sun. Even at the time, I thought she was so different from all the securuty crazed people I have seen elsewhere. She was down-to-earth, kind and great to talk with.
I haven`t read this whole thread so I don`t know if someone already posted this person:
I don`t know his name but when I went to see The Odd Couple there was this nice funny guy who smoked everytime I saw him and he was just..u know! Nice! He was kinda short and had a mustache. I talked to him for a while!

Kevin at the Imperial is definitely awesome. At first we were overwhelmed by how loud and brash he was... but we got the courage to ask him to take us backstage, cause we didn't think he'd say yes, and then he DID. It was so cool. :)
LOVING all the stories about my good buddy Kevin at the Imperial It makes me happy. I will tell him how much you all enjoy his antics and the tours and chats
He has no TV or computer or anything and he'd get a kick out of this.

I have been to lots of stage doors, and hands down Kevin at Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is the best. When I got to the stage door, all of the front spots were taken. I was the only person waiting in the back. So, he was soooooooo nice and just let me wait to the side of the baricade. I know a lot of other stage door people wouldn't let anyone do that....
I don`t know if the guy at the door of DRS (Kevin) is the one I met. (I met him in November) He was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Nice!!!! At the time I didn`t live here and I told him it was my first trip from MS! We talked for a while and he took me on the stage! So nice!

My son (age 14) and I went to see "Sweeney" not long ago, and waited at the stage door afterwards. It was the first time I'd ever done it and I was also concerned about a)bothering the actors and b)a mob scene, but it actually worked out very well. The woman at the door was great, very friendly, and the actors all seemed happy to sign. I think everyone in the cast came out. My son was thrilled! We went on a Friday night and I think there were only about 20 people waiting at the most. They set up little barricades around the door and you just wait behind them. It was very well-organized and not a mob scene at all.
