Mrslovett, it's not easy (to become a backstage doorman). One of my friends said you have to first be an usher, and then work years at that. I'm sure that's not the only route, but I do have a feeling you must have years at some other sort of position before being hired in this one.

The girl at Sweeney (I believe you all said her name is Christine) is so funny and so nice. A bunch of us chatted with her for a while, she was joking around about how much it would SUCK to work at the Wicked stagedoor. She was really funny and very sweet.
I've been to the Imperial Theater stage door...er...8 times. Every single encounter I've had with Kevin he has been very rude to me, even when I was personally introduced to him by Greg Jbara. I realize how draining his job must be, though, having to control a mob of people at a stage door, so I don't really mind.
I feel bad that I can't remember Christine from "Sweeney" at all since so many people have said nice things about her. But that was a pleasant stage door experience, even if it was bitterly cold out after that mid-February matinee.
I mentioned them in another thread just now, but I absolutely loved Richie and Pecas from the Palace. I saw a lot of them during "Lestat" and they were great.
I also like Wally at the Majestic, though he doesn't really deal with the crowd down at the alley door...he's just in charge of letting people in at the actual stage door. But he was always nice to deal with.
aww Wally at the Majestic! I love him! And Freddie at the Palace was really really sweet too. Go guys who let people in the stage door! Richie at the Palace was really ontop of things--great guy--nice to talk to, too.
Back when Gypsy was at the Schubert, the door attendant's name was Rose (she loved the irony)--my friend and i had a meeting with one of the stage managers for the show and Rose showed us around backstage while we were waiting for him--she was great!
When i saw WIW at the Marquis, the backsatge attendent was extremly kind. He came out periodically to tell us if Maria Friedman was going to be out yet and why (she ended up emerging at 12:15am, 1 hr and 20 minutes after the show, she'd been talking with Dave Zippel). Is he still there?
The guy who was there at the Minskoff with FOTR was great. When I was backstage he'd make intercom announcements with such humour!
How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
The guy at the Broadway theatre was a real jerk when we went to see "Color Purple." There was an elderly woman there with her grand daughter, who I started talking to. After a while, she went over to the guy and asked him (very politely, I might add) if he happened to know if or when LaChanze would be coming out. He was extremely rude to her and said he didn't know if she was coming out and sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't, he doesn't know because he doesn't ask her before or after every performance. It really pissed me off that he was so rude to her! He could have nicely told her he didn't know.

The guy at Jersey Boys is the best. I absolutely love him, but I feel so bad because I can't remember his name. He was so much fun, and I talked to him the entire time I was there.
Gypsy, I think you have a very good excuse for not remembering Christine--she doesn't work matinees
I've seen both signs of Kevin, and he's really nice at heart. He does take his job seriously, and likes to heckle people as well. But then you give it right back to him, and you're instantly entertained while you wait for the DRS cast
James at Hairspray is also awesome.

One of the guys at Studio 54 is one of the nicest.
I was waiting for someone and he asked me who I was waiting for, he made several calls back to find out where said person was (there was a talk back so everyone was delayed), then he made sure the person came over to me.
Christine is my favorite ever. Let's just say that I'm at the O'Neill quite a bit, and so I've gotten to know her semi-decently. She is so sweet. My brother (who's 9) also loves her. Last night we were joking around about the sighs that she got when people realized the wasn't in the cast, so then we got her to come out doing a Miss America wave, and we all cheered for her. She is the BEST.

Rose has actually been nice to someone? News to me. She and I have a love hate relationship; we love to hate each other.
Now Leon, on the other hand, who's there during the day is a sweetheart and a half!

Not always... if you're security as well, it's my understanding that a background in security is really all you need. Obviously, like any other job, experience on some level is a plus.
ThankstoPhantom, are you thinking of Hector at the Marquis?

I agree with anyone who said the stage door attendant from Jersey Boys he was so nice!He was taking pictures for people and someone even asked him to sign their playbill.

The Miss America wave was very funny. Your brother got her to jump out of the door too.
She is very nice and entertaining.

All 3 times I have been at the Sweeney stage door, there has been this guy there, and not Christine. He is about 20ish and is also very nice, but I want to meet thiks lady. Anyone knwo whats up with that?

The guy at the Hirschfeld is the sweetest. He's also really funny.

I had the same experience as BSoBW2. Victor at 3penny was awesome especially b/c Cyndi took a day and a half. He kept giving us updates on how much longer!

Hmmmm, DRG, i don't know what's up with that. She's always been there when I've seen the show (always at night). You really should try to meet her. She is so sweet, and is very on top of things as far as informing the crown of the actors whereabouts/wait times.

I<3JerseyBoys, yeah. the stage door guy there is the best. The last time I was there (this was pre-Tony awards) I was the only person there. After he put the barricades up (I guess he expected more people) he sat out and talked to me the whole time. Every once in a while he'd run back in to see where the guys were, and when they'd be coming out. He also took all the pictures for me, including the one I'm using now. I really wish I could remember his name. lol. I feel so bad
there was a guy at the odd couple who was very nice, we went ther on the last day and couldn't get tickets so we were sitting outside and he sat and talked to us gave us 2 posters each and 2 playbills each to get signed. very nice man.
Christine at Sweeney is the Best!! When I saw it back in April, she was just fantastic! She would go in and out of the stage door, and when she opened the door you heard all of the people at the stage door get ready to cheer, and when she came out it was like a huge sigh (especially when the only person left was Michael.) She joked about how great it was to keep tricking us like that. She is the bomb!
