To tell you the truth, I haven't really seen any understudies, but Julie Hanson was wonderful when I saw her - she is an alternate and goes on twice a week.

Also, I hear that Eden Espinosa was supposed to be great.

I saw Julie Hanson as well. What a voice! And acting skills to match!

The woman who took over for Donna Murphy in Wonderful Town (dont yell at me but I forgot her name) was AMAZING! I was like the only person giving her a final standing O. LOL

re: Best Standbys/Understudies

Donna Marie Asbury in Chicago.

I hadn't seen Chicago in years and I just popped in one night without looking to see who was in the cast. I was disappointed to see that Jasmine Guy was in there - but then felt relief when I saw that she was not going to be going on that night. Instead we got her stand in, Donna Marie. I became a die-hard fan of that lady that night and I'll only go back and see Chicago again when I know she's the Velma!

re: Best Standbys/Understudies

Would people who used to be the standby for a role but are now in that role count? Because I thought Brad Oscar was excellent as Max Bialystock, but he was actually supposed to be in that role... Oh this is getting confusing!

I also enjoyed Jim Borstelmann as Franz Liebkind when we saw the show back in March.

I saw Charley Izabella King understudy for Cady Huffman, and she was fantastic! She's know the touring Ulla, I believe.
