I AM WHAT I AM is not a tenor song... it's baritone.
"Take A Chance On Me" from LITTLE WOMEN.
"How Glory Goes" from FLOYD COLLINS.
"Wig In A Box" from HEDWIG
"Awaiting You" from MYTHS AND HYMNS
"Passing Tracy" from TRUE FANS
"Heaven" from ONLY HEAVEN
"What Is It About Her?" from WILD PARTY (Lippa's)
"At The Fountain" from SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
"Flight" by Craig Carnelia
"Surrender" by Scott Alan
"King Of The World" from SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD
"Old Red Hills Of Home" from PARADE
... that's just off the top of my head. it's not that hard. there's one in almost every single musical.

There shouldn't be any "belting" going on in LES MIS from Valjean.
Eponine should be belting. no one else. every other part is distinctly written for legit styling.

I would say that during the courtroom scene, when Valjean sings 'Who am I? 2 4 6 0 1!' that's about as belt-y as you can get
Most Valjeans REALLY hit that hard
Don't they?
(I'm not sure there's 'belting' in BRING HIM HOME, but you did say Valjean shouldn't be belting anything)

This one's one of my faves, but it's a shame almost no one knows this one.
"Made of Stone" from Hunchback of Notre Dame.
(The high C at the end is a KILLER!!)

You should try Music Anthology for Tenor parts, they have good songs, and you can easily find recordings of most of them to see which ones are belted!!! I love musical theatre belting. THIS IS A GREAT THREAD!

Posted: 5/1/08 at 8:21amReally, from a vocal technique standpoint, only women have a belt voice....men don't belt. It's a re-focusing of a head/chest voice. Men use their head voice completely differently. I think you're talking about power-ballads, not belt songs. That's why "belter" is not a term applied to male voices.

Posted: 5/1/08 at 11:40amI would consider Love Cant Happen for a Baritone. Id agree Anthem from Chess is incredible and really shows off a tenor voice.

Anthem from Chess popped into my head too
I also think Stars from Les Mis is definitely a tenor song-the end is belting

Run Freedom Run from Urinetown?
There's certain ways you can turn that song into an all out belt fest. Same with the Act 1 Finale and Look at the Sky.
