I remember this one, fondly, as my first "singing" audition :I

It's a hard one, but it is one of the most recognized audition pieces I know.

Everyone was doing Unusual Way for awhile. Then On My Own was popular.
But the best audition song of all time is probably one that hasn't been done by half the known world.

tazber...you caught on the concept!!! That's right, one that nobody else might do.
However, for recognition's sake, I suppose it must not be SO obscure that the auditioning musicians might not know it...otherwise it might be a very "short" audition... =I

well, if you get a decent pianist they should be able to sight read it pretty well. and most audition pianists will follow your lead.

The best audition song is whichever one shows you off so well that you get the job.

"Tchikowsky" (I know I didn't spell that right) from Lady in the Dark.

I've always been cast when I do that one. A 45-second patter song where all you do is list the names of Russian composers.

Sutton Foster's auditioning days are long gone. She's now offered roles -- she doesn't have to audition for them.

"Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat" hasn't failed me yet!

For the show I'm currently directing, I had three different females come in and sing "I Enjoy Being a Girl."
