I agree with the Kerry Butler non-nomination. She was undoubtedly the vocal highlight of the entire show, and she was quite funny and charming as well.
Kerry wasn't nominated? I didn't even know the nominations came out. Talk about out of the loop.
"Kerry wasn't nominated? I didn't even know the nominations came out. Talk about out of the loop."
I truly mean no offense when I say this: Are you serious?
completely serious. My computer's been screwed up and Broadway.com isn't working - normally I'd check because I know they come out around now. I'm going to find them right now though!
Kerry wasn't nominated for Hairspray. We're not talking about this season's musicals.
wow, I was SO confused. I was on the phone planning an important meeting, trying to figure out Shakespeare and studying integral calculus all while I was reading the board. I was scrolling through the original post so quickly I didn't even see HAIRSPRAY written next to Kerry's name. Multitasking is clearly not my forte.
When are the nominations released anyway? I think it's soon...
Now that that's all cleared up, I completely agree with most of those, especially Anthony Rapp, Sherie Rene Scott and Rebecca Luker.
I'd probably add Kerry O'malley for Into the Woods. I'l lthink of others
I have said this many times but KERRY WAS ROBBED.
She deserved a Tony and Drama Desk last year.
She got a nomination for Hairspray (Drama Desk) but did not win.
She handled it like a trooper. I think i was more upset then she was.
I clapped so hard for her that Brian Denehy made a remark.
To Corine2-

Where was this?

I thought perhaps Kerry could have gotten a nomination but there wasn't anyone I would have taken out of the category to replace her with. Then I saw her performance in Little Shop and realized I got another version of Penny in that show and changed my mind about her getting robbed. I don't think she was.
The Drama Desk Awards.
I was rooting for Kerry Butler last year.
What did Brian say to you?
He was behind me at the awards.
He is a very nice man at the end of the show he said
"so you like Hairspray do you" and he winked at me.
I tell you he is such a Teddy Bear i wanted to hug him.
Yeah, he seems like a really nice guy.

As much as I liked the revival of INTO THE WOODS... I have to say that no one was deserving of a TONY in that show. They were all good but not FABULOUS>
Not necessarily winning the actually award. Just a nomination.

well not even a nomination I felt. Better shows that year.
Like THOU SHALT NOT!
THOU SHALT NOT?
Is that a joke? I have never seen the show, but I have heard nothing but bad things about it. Were you being sarcastic?
He had to be sarcastic. It was one of the worst shows i have ever seen and the cast was made up of brilliant performers.
It was one of the biggest dissappointments i have ever had.
And i paid top dollar for the ticket.
But at least i saw Craig. That Tug Boat song made me want to jump overboard myself.
I also love Norbert. He was incredible in the Last Five Years and Violet.

"La Chanze - Once on this island"
I'm pretty sure La Chanze was nominated as Best Supporting Actressbut but lost to Daisy Eagan in The Secret Garden.
Yes, she was nominated for best featured actress.
One thing: Didn't LaChanze play TiMoune? How does that qualify as a featured role? It's the lead. What were they thinking?
