Best place to get cheap OBCs?

Hi there. I'm in New York for seventeen days and have a question. It's pretty much in the subject line, but I'll elaborate. I went to Billy Elliot today and wanted the CD so bad, but my Jewish core wouldn't even allow it. So I'm hoping someone can suggest the best place to get cheap Broadway CDs (even though I'm fairly certain that BE is neither an OBC, nor is it a Broadway CD, since it's London, but you know what I mean). I'm also interested in Pal Joey (any version) since I really liked the score tonight (and surprisingly didn't hate Channing, as I felt her acting more than made up for the less-than-perfect singing - though I'm sure once I listen to other versions I will change my mind). I remember something being posted back when I was in Vegas about Virgin Times Square closing, but I couldn't find it when I looked.
So yes - any advice from the (fantastic) masses?

THere are many used-CD stores in the village. Also Academy Book and Record has a great selection of used CD's often for about 1/2 regular "new" price.
These stores can be hit an miss but if you have a lengthy wish list, you will no doubt find some of them.
Also try Amazon marketplace and E-bay. You can often score some cheap titles there.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I might need to make a trip to the village, although, it is a big area. I haven't seen any used CD shows.
I'd say your best bet is Virgin in Times Square. They have a great selection, and a lot of the older stuff is priced at around $12. I think they had an older Pal Joey with Patti Lupone for pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the quick replies. So glad to hear Virgin is still open and selling stuff off. On one of my days when I have more time I will have to take a trip into the village to look for cheaper stuff, but I don't think I can go much longer without Billy Elliot and at least Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered on my iPhone. I so badly want to walk around town while listening to Electricity. I just know I'd start into a leap when he yelps, "I'm...free!" :)
Is Academy Book and Record in the village or is that around this (Times Square) area?
And there's a Pal Joey recording with LuPone? Really???

The PAL JOEY CD with Patti LuPone and Peter Gallagher is the Encores! version which features the original orchestrations. It is an excellent recording. Buy it.
The Virgin store is great to visit and if they are having sales on all of their OBCR's, that would be a good place to start.
For myself, no longer living in NYC, I buy cast albums almost exclusively on Amazon.com. The prices for new CD's are very good and for used CD's even better. I have purchased a number of used CD's over the years and have never been disappointed. Of course you need either a credit card or a bank account to purchase on line with Amazon.

I visited the Virgin store mid-January. VERY FEW bway titles were discounted. So unless its changed recently (very possibly) I wouldn't count on it.
I'm in the city later this week (tues-thurs) and plan on stopping in to check.

Posted: 2/15/09 at 9:18amI check out the new and used cd prices on Amazon and then search ebay to see if I can do better. I buy most show cds for under $7.00.

Posted: 2/15/09 at 7:38pmI was in the Times Square Virgin Megastore today ..... and there are not any bargains as of now for cast Cd's. Everything is basically list price - the one exception I spotted was an abundance of the Disney TARZAN Broadway cas album for 50% off.
