In a recent interview with Playbill.com, Beth Leavel confirmed that she will be a part of the cast of the new musical MINSKY'S, set to premiere at LA's Ahmanson Theater:
"Question: Do you have any other projects in the works?
Leavel: I do. I haven't signed a contract, but it looks like I'm going to be going back to Los Angeles, to the Ahmanson, to do The Night They Raided Minsky's — directed by Casey Nicholaw, written by Bob Martin, with music by Charles Strouse and Susan Birkenhead.
Question: What part will you be playing in that?
Leavel: I'm going to be playing Mazzie. She's the jaded dance director at the burlesque house.
Question: When will that be?
Leavel: I think we'll actually be out there January or February [2009]. They're hoping for a Broadway transfer, but I'm not sure when that will be. But when Casey Nicholaw and Bob Martin call, I go!"

Are any songs from this with Lee Adams lyrcis? If so, will they remain or will they be gone if they are not already?
Mr Roxy, I was told that all presents lyrics in the show are by Susan Birkenhead, so it's safe to say anything by Adams is now gone.
Leavel has a terrific number called "Home" that she completely knocked out of the park when she did the workshop a couple months ago.
There's also a video of Beth singing the "Home" number at a concert for some sort of musical performance summer camp thing. (...or something like that?)
bump.
I haven't heard the full score to Minsky's but "Home" is on the "Musicality of Strouse" album performed beautifully by Karen Ziemba and Christiane Noll.
I wasn't going to see this, but I might have to now!
What do you mean by "I might have to now"? You HAVE TO!
Very funny miss pennywise :). I hope TheatreFreak goes so that we can all find out how the show is coming together. Wow, this is still very exciting news.
Thank you for bumping this. I'm actually delaying moving just so I can see this in LA. Thank you Beth Leavel for taking on this role! This is very exciting and I hope it makes the transition to Broadway easier. So happy this is premiering in LA and it's a good location. Good Hotels within walking distance of the Theatre. Ahmanson too has a great staff. If they want to be back at the Marquis, which would be so great, they have to wait for 9 to 5 to take its turn. That could push it back until at least the Summer?
I think 9 to 5 will do a good job. It has a great cast. Does anyone know if Minsky's is vying for a different Theatre? I'm afraid after seeing "Drowsy" at the Marquis, I will always long to see a big stage filled up with fantastic sets and plenty of room to move in. It was comfortable and it also had a great staff at this Theatre.
Does anyone know too, who else will be in the show, yet?
I understand the cast is set, except for the two leads.
(Hey, Tkt!)
I'm very happy that Bob Martin is writing the book. The movie script is quite dated (and frankly too dark for a Strouse musical) and Bob Martin will do a great job in updating the book and making it funny for today's audiences.
I'm happy Bob Martin is working the script too! He is too funny. Hopefully he will be able to insert enough of his humor into the script. I'm grateful that it isn't well known and I am hoping it can be put together with some of that, "razzle, dazzle", that made "Chicago" famous. Add Beth Leavel though, is just another, wow.
