#1Betrayal Question?

I was looking at the numbers of Betrayal, it's selling extremely well. Do you think it's because the play is well known? Or for Daniel Craig? Or Rachel Weisz? I am sure some people will attack me, but I barely know these two actors. Maybe Harold Pinter's attachment? I guess Craig is the main draw because he was in the James Bond movie, but if women are the ones paying these high prices to see a movie star hunk onstage, why would they want to see him along with actress wife?

The play is a contemporary classic, but who cares about that? The play is a hit because Daniel Craig is in it, and to boot, his onstage wife is being played by his real life wife, who is also a movie star. I guarantee that 80% of ticket buyers have no idea who Harold Pinter was and don't care.

I think it is likely for Daniel Craig because he was, as you point out in the James Bond movie. He was in another play a few years ago with Hugh Jackman and that sold out as well. So it must be him.

Go to the TKTS booth. Ask 10 people in line if they know who Harold Pinter is. My guess is 1 out of 10 will know he is a playwright.

People want to see James Bond on stage. And Weisz. And in a play with the title "Betrayal," it sounds like a romantic drama.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'd pay to watch Daniel Craig read the phone book, especially if he were shirtless.
