Posted: 6/6/12 at 4:21pmHas anybody heard more about this? Anybody know when it's supposed to premiere? I know Rose Hemingway, Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Dick Latessa took part in a recent reading.

Posted: 6/6/12 at 9:00pmAll I know about it is JRB wrote two songs for it (http://www.jasonrobertbrown.com/weblog/2009/10/sound_blog_13title_withheld_on.php) but then the bottom fell out and the project died.

While the number in the video was lovely and beautiful, I think JRB's songs have a much more memorable feel to them.
I remember when Kristin Chenoweth performed "Spread A Little Joy" at her Carnegie Hall concert eons ago and said it was a number from Lippa's take on it.

Posted: 6/6/12 at 9:51pmI love Betty Boop (and am annoyed we still don't have a decent DVD collection, using the non public domain edited prints, of the wonderful, surreal cartoons she did pre the movie code, when suddenly she could no longer have boyfriends, or a strapless dress, and took on a cute puppy dog). But this seems like one of those completely "why" musicals. Her appeal was in crazy, surrealistic, 7 minute short cartoons. I don't really see any story there (while Annie is a long ways off in tone from Little Orphan Annie it at least is based on a serialized comic strip, same with superhero adaptations). Seeing Cheno play her in a short skit or 30 min one act would probably be amusing, but an entire show made around her?

Posted: 6/6/12 at 10:20pmI'd like to see this come to fruition...but not on Broadway. They should do a big regional production at Paper Mill or 5th Avenue or something. Maybe a tour. Then put the licensing rights out. I'm sure it'd be popular with high schools and community theaters.
