I have a technical voice question pertaining to Betty Buckley's singing voice. I cannot exactly describe the "phenomenon", so I will include examples from SUNSET BOULEVARD.
It happens here when she sings "No words can tell the stories my eyes tell." Sounds like "myHIGHeyes".
Here - "They drag the Baptist up from the jails." Sounds like "the BaHAPtist"
Here - "This world's waited long enough." Sounds like "The-HISS".
I don't have the technical means or knowledge to describe it. It's like she is a moment early but right on tempo or catches up. It's almost a scoop, but not (I don't think).
This "phenomenon" does not bother me; I actually enjoy it, but I don't know that I've noticed it coming from anyone else. Is it habit or training or chosen technique? I don't know.
Is it a thing? If so, what is it called? Any insight would be appreciated.

I don;t have anything to add to the conversation. It just reminds me of my most favorite moment on any bootleg ever.
I've come HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME at last!
I think the technical term is "being from Texas".
I had never noticed till someone told me and then I constantly listened for it, and heard, when Julie Andrews sang[on a recording] you could always hear her take a deep breath.
Oh how I wish I could hear that voice singing still today.
Just thought I'd throw that in here--no help to Betty I'm afraid but from some of the stories I've heard about her and her parrot, maybe the bird was doing the singing[or part thereof].
Parrot? I have to look into this. My baby is my profile pic!
It was so long ago I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend etc that whilst Betty was in something in London the company had rented her a big house for the run[think the 'friend'[trick?] was in real estate[well we all need a 2nd job to afford theatre tickets !] and because she/the parrot thought the house haunted/the spirts were angry/naughty/non-theatrical that she[and her parrot] wouldn't stay there and the company was stuck with that rent plus the rent on another[less haunted] place.
