Does anybody else think this could work on stage? Possibly starring Kevin Spacey who did all of his own vocals & dance? If it was to open on Broadway, and Kevin Spacey was not playing Bobby Darin, who would you like to see do it?
Tell me what you guys think!
Well, the film wasn't a big splashy tribute to Bobby Darin. It was a big, splashy tribute to Kevin Spacey, not to mention it was terrible. I don't think we're quite ready for a Kevin Spacey jukebox musical.
The best thing about that lame film was Rob Ashford's sensational choreography! Whenever I put that DVD on, it's simply to just watch the dance numbers, especially the one that ends the film with him and the little boy and those male dancers. Cinematic magic!
The film tanked & was not well received by critics. It was quite good IMO
Spacey was too old to play Darren with any credibility. The movie was simply uninteresting and slow.

Are there any clips of the dancing on youtube Brody?
Don't know. I guess that means I'm going to have to get to work, huh?

The best thing about the film was the music, but even there I would have chosen a few different songs, and more of them.
Actually there is much more that could be said about Bobby Darin than was covered in the movie (which took many liberties anyway), and other angles that could be taken on his remarkable story.
So in my view there is a lot of room for a Bobby Darin musical!
A little known movie Darin was in, opposite Sidney Poitier, was called Pressure Point. He played a racist who was in therapy with the prison shrink played by Poitier
I loved the dancing, the music was great, the costumes were beautiful, but Spacey was way too old to portray a believable Darin. I did see Spacey in concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center that same year and thought he really does have a great voice. He just didn't fit the role.
