Bigger Than Bubblegum is a musical i came across while listening to one of my favorite girl groups "The Emotions" and i wanted to know more about them so i went searching and i found out they have a musical about them, Then i got into what they looked like and the songs they sung and found out that Dreamgirls has just about the same comparisons to this group as to the Supremes.
The Emotions are The Dreamettes with Effie as lead
I cant tell you which sisters are who yet but there definitely is an Effie and Deena as far as voices.
With The Surpremes as the top selling group of that time real girl groups that could sing got over shadowed so maybe thats why those of you that were around at that time paid these women no mind.
But anyway
If anyone (Singingbackup) has seen this musical please give some more info about it.
It played the Pasadena Playhouse in 1997 and was said to be a hit
FYI:i will bump the *hit out of this topic so reply hehe
Didn't they have a hit with "You've Got the Best of My Love"?
Never heard of "Bigger Than Bubblegum"

I enjoyed it alot, and yes the comparisons to Dreamgirls was there, but at the end, the real EMOTIONS came out to sing some of their hits, so it added something interesting to it, brought it full circle. As I recall, the original songs were decent, but when the actual EMOTIONS came out and rocked the house, still sounding amazing, that was what really sticks in your mind.

Why isn't "Sparkle" more often credited when it comes to the R&B trio story? That film came out in 1976, years before "Dreamgirls" was even thought of.
