Since the Tony's were last night I thought it is finally time to reflect on this wonderful season. What were the biggest suprises of the Broadway 2015-16 season to you?
To me one of the biggest was Tuck Everlasting flopped. I though the music was great. I know it was way overstuffed with unnecessary dancing but it is such a known entity. I think everyone where I gre up was required to read the book. I'm surprised it couldn't find a fan base.

To me it is that Fiddler on the Roof got lost in the shuffle. If I had seen it without reading anything on here and not knowing that it wouldn't have won any Tonys, I would've been shocked. I loved the show and thought it was a perfect production in my opinion. And with Bartlett Sher just coming off of the marvelous King and I, I figured that this would be universally well received and celebrated.
I think it's rather crazy that not one single other NEW musical was honored with an award last night.
-Heather Headley's fabulous return!!
-Getting TWO wonderful Van Hove productions in the same season
-American Psycho closing up so soon.
-Announcement that The Hudson is to be returned to legit use.
-Plans to raise the entire Palace Theatre
-The strength of the season in general. (Next season isn't looking as exciting to me)
I was way surprised at how much I enjoyed the score to BRIGHT STAR as someone without much love for bluegrass.
BRIGHT STAR! Went in with no expectations and came out a big fan!
Agreeing with the above, Bright Star was the surprise of the season for me. Had heard nary a buzz about it, and it captured my heart. Additionally, Carmen Cusack is the most joyous and exciting surprise Broadway could have hoped for. She is marvelous.
If one year ago you had said Bright Star would be nominated for best musical over American Pyscho and Tuck, most would have said you were crazy. Similarly, Cusack nabbing a Tony nom over Audra McDonald? Huge surprise, but could not be more deserved.
