Once again, I don't think Spring Awakening winning for Choreography was much of a shocker. Many had predicted it would win. It certainly wasn't one of the biggest shockers at the Tonys.

Posted: 10/12/08 at 12:57amI don't understand why so many people didn't think SA deserved choreography. I thought the choreography for both Spring Awakening and Mary Poppins was brilliant, and either Matthew or Bill deserved it. Yes, there was a lot of jumping around in spring awakening but the movent/ography really was something special and i thought worked great with the style of the show. I think Bill T. Jones is kind of a genius, but thats just me...

I'm with you, drewboy. The choreography in Spring Awakening contributed to and forwarded the plot and was practically its own character in the show. It isn't just mindless jumping around or overly complicated dance sequences for no reason. It actually meant something. If anything, it was the best use of choreography in a show that year, and that's a big reason why it was given the award.
