Starts performances Sept. 17th of 2008 as was previously discussed, but at least there has been confirmation.
WOO!
Wow...
I thought the Broadway production opened before the Australian one...
Can't wait!
Nope. apparently, they're trying the changes out in Australia before they open in NY.

So, question is, what will take The Imperial Theatre prior to Billy Elliot's run? Wasn't Porgy and Bess rumored for a limited run on Broadway? Perhaps that's what will pan out.
There has never been any conformation that Billy Elliot will take the Imperial theatre. They said that they wanted to and that they were looking at it but they never said that they were going to take it for sure. People heard this and then warped it into bily elliott was going to take the imperial.
There is a poster in Shubert Alley saying the date and the Imperial Theatre.
Owned.
Also, musicalfan07, any idea what all changes they did from the West End to Aus? Or anyone?

Noone knows except for the creative team - the show doesn't open until January.
I saw that poster tonight too. So excited.

Can anybody take a picture of it and post it please?
I've seen a pic, but you can't see anything except Billy's body. It's inbetween a Rent poster and a Curtains one.

i'll take a picture today on my way to Xanadu and post it tonight!
I'm looking forward to this show...even though I hated the movie. There was so much yelling I mean is that necessary?
i seriously hope they modify the set, it was rather boreing, they had some interesting moments but they wern't fully realised (billy's house corkscrewing out of the stage floor) but it left alot of vacant stage.
also its a pitty the ending is different, the movie ending always made me cry because they focused on Billy's success. The stage ending just ends with him going off to school and the miners going back to work.

hey, Justin: thanks a million for the SPOILER ALERT before you GAVE AWAY THE ENDING OF THE SHOW!!!!!!!
argggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Sorry, honestly, my mistake, i keep assuming that because its been around for a while that it was known. again my apologies.
It hasn't been around for awhile, in the sense that it hasn't been in America yet at all. You should really erase or edit your post, Justin D. Such a major spoiler, and not warned about in this thread.
On a positive note, I love this show! How exciting that there's a poster in Shubert Alley

Winston, you have posted several times saying you didn't think it was confirmed that Billy Elliott was taking The Imperial and everytime, you're told it's confirmed and most of the time, a link is posted to the story that confirms it. Do a search, "billy elliott imperial" pulls up quite a few links on here and on google.
Why cant folks on here just wait for the official official announcement and then take the chat from there.
There's a video of the Aussie Billys visiting London on the YT site, just search:
Australia's Billys Go To London
Hope it kinda helps :P
I saw it in London last year, and my main issue with the show which I hope they address is mellowing the accent a bit. It was so harsh, that we missed alot of what was said. There's a lot of English political matter as well that I just kinda felt confused the whole time. It's also in the movie, but moreso in the show I believe. It's one of the very rare shows that I like the movie better.

thats why i dont think it will work on Broadway. If you change it you will ruin it. if you dont understand it-sorry but thats the nature of the production. I really hope they dont change but they will so that it can play Broadway- a shame. The West End dont change American accents for london productions.
I definitely agree with you, and certainly don't think they should have American-like accents, but if they want people to come and enjoy the show, just tame the accent a tad so that it is intelligible. But I also understand that it needs to be somewhat authentic or it won't work, So I do question how it will do here as well. And they definitely need to put a synopsis in the playbill.

uhh what? The West End don't change American accents for London productions?
I don't see the reason in keeping the accent. It's not like there are two different gangs in the show where people speak with different accents. I only hear this concern mostly from the people who lives in UK..
