Friday Nights Performance - Wow

Well I thought I would post my last message tonight just before I go away on my 2 week cruise in a few hours time…

I have in fact just got back from see Billy Elliot for the seventh time tonight and I wanted to share with you all the absolute brilliance of this show. I felt that this was the best performance I’ve seen to date but then I guess it helps that I’m already in holiday mode!

Both Liam played Billy and Ryan played Michael.

Firstly Liam. I’ve not seen him play the role of Billy for some time now and what a transformation! I thought he was good the first time I watched his performance but tonight just blew me away! Liam’s “Angry Dance” was the best I have seen and as for his “Electricity” choreographed bit, well, what a dancer!

Ryan, you were as superb as ever and once again had the audience gripped and laughing out your hands.

Keep it up boys…

By the way, I did go to the stage door afterwards to try and get some of the signatures from the cast who I’ve not got yet and I bumped into both George and the rest of the gang who must have been the understudies… I wanted to go and chat to say hello but the opportunity didn’t arise.
By the way guys, if you think I’m West End Pro, I’m not :o)

This is me signing off for a bit… till the next time.

Michael's Name and the Show

I'm a bit curious - how do you guys know the new Michael's name is Joey? And, please feel free to mail me with stuff you feel would be suitable for billyelliotfans.com

Also, a question for everyone - why do you like this show so much?

Michael's Name and the Show

For song - defo the letter or electricity. saying that.. solidarity certainly stayed in my head for ages and ages.. and so did the stars looked down..hmm.. and born to boogie and expressing yourself are great too.. ah i give up - theyre all amazing!! cant choose!
for scene - its always gona depend on who you have seen playing billy. i have only seen liam so i would say his electricity.. but in general i think billy and michaels expressing yourself scene is just magic and dead funny! ahh im too indecisive!

what does every1 else think? someone who has seen all 2 billys - do u have a fav scene for each?

Michael's Name and the Show

Liam - Electricity - His ballet sequence in it is simply amazing.
George - Angry Dance - The cries of anguish and the rhythm he obtains are wonderful.
James - Tough one, he is so strong in all departments. I would have to say either the sheer feeling he puts into his reply to "The Letter" or his and Ashley's "Express Yourself". Both are terrific.

The best song in the show. Probably "Solidarity". It tells so much of the story in one song that for me it is the best song.

Why do I like the show so much? Hmm, Billy puts it better than I ever could. "I can't really explain it, I haven't got the words". I have never left a show with such a great feeling that this show gives me.

All great things must come to pass. We know the first will soon be last and in the ground we may be lain , but a seed is sown to rise again.

Liam's singing

I have just seen the show for the 14th time Saturday 10th matinee with Liam the star.
I have not seen Liam for some months and what struck me most was what a beautiful voice he now has. His 'Electricity' was sung and danced so well it has to be my highlight and why I love this show. In the early days Liam's voice was a little thin but now it has achieved a degree of confidence in expression that was almost cathedral quality at times. Someone must have been doing some superb teaching with this boy. Liam for the CD he has vote that's for certain. His acting skills have also come on considerably as in the angry dance although for me George still does this best.
It was also great to see Liam bursting with good health after his recent problems and the buzz he left behind at curtain fall left an audience (which had been slow to get going) in raptures.
The show will be mad to let Liam go when he has so much still to offer.
Perhaps we should start a petition now!!

Liam's singing

Hi, not posted before but have been reading, i have seen the show twice and seen both George and Liam. Saw show yesterday (Fri 10th sept) and Liam was wonderful and I think 'Electricity' is best both for dance and song, although the tap at the end is amazing. I would like to say that the ballet class girls were so funny and i have been reading the messages here for a long time and no one mentions them, they are such an important part of the show. The girls i saw last night were different to the ones on my first visit and I think last nights were great. Any information on who they are, a lady next to me said she thought they were the Orgrave team? whatever that means. There was one smallish girl that didnt stop smiling throughout the show, I think she was in the xmas part and sat next to the girl playing Debbie, and was at the front for the big tap finish, she was amazing and there was a small black girl she was very sweet. Anyone know anything about them or any of the girls?
Yes what happened to Debbie one half of show was a girl with black hair (lucy ?) and then changed to blonde?

The Upcoming Week

Thank you sooo much for the link to the Yahoo group. I'm sitting here in the States waiting not too patiently for the show to come here. I only pray that when it does, it stays 100% British. It can't be diluted in any way, it would destroy the whole story. I saw the film 6 times and bought the DVD, I knew that this was too good a tale to not become a stage show. From what I have found on the net the show has exceeded my expectations. Now please send the album and/or DVD here asap lol.

The Upcoming Week

Sigh... I really NEED to book a flight to London to see this show...

The Ballet Girls & Boys

Hi All,

In response to the point raise by "Ordinary Joe" above.

I'm sure everyone here would agree, that we all think very highly of all the kids who perform in the show, and not just the Billys, Michaels and Debbies.

Your point does raise an interesting issue though. Why isn't there more about them in the programme? I wasn't even aware that team names had been assigned to each, and as said previously, there is nothing in the programme to confirm this.

Is anyone here able to give us more info?

As with any show, and whilst it may seem unfair, the main focus of posts on a forum such as this will always be slanted in favour of the leading characters.

That said, I cannot emphasise enough that we all of us appreciate and respect all of the actors, both young an old, along with the crew, for making "Billy" come alive.

The Upcoming Week

I can understand your reaction COOOL KID.Hope you make it over sometime soon. I was talking to some Americans last night who were totally blown away by the show and want it on Broadway tomorrow. But would it be the same? Yes Johan I wil be there Friday pm and Saturday matinee.
By the way George and Brad were great last night when they had to contend with a comedy of errors in the clothes dance. The flash on the camera failed to go off, the lipstick broke so George was lipstickless and one of their sound enhancing mikes crackled badly. Plus crashes of thunder outside were clearly audible inside. As the true professionals they are, the boys carried on regardless to wild acclaim from a very resposive audience.

Does anyone know?

hi guys do any of you know when the cast recording is coming out, know one seems to know x
#566

is is james singing?

if you go onto
www.billyelliotthemusical.com in teh MEDIA section there are clips from electricity and the letter. is that james singing or george? or liam? please helpreally confused.
#567

Does anyone know?

If you ask at the theatre they will only say late October/November. There is a form at the theatre (with a posting box) where you can fill in your address and e-mail and mobile phone details and then you will be given a direct notification when the cast recording is available plus a chance to win I think 5 copies. You could try e-mailing the theatre with your details and these could be entered on one of those forms for you.

#570

Does anyone know?

I_love_billy_elliot, those clips are definitely not sung by Liam. And I also think neither George and James sang those. I've heard all three of them but none of them resembles the voice in those clips.

But then again, listening to recordings and live performances are very different.

Does anyone know?

On second thought, could it be an (adult) woman singing it? There are obviously people joining in, which is not the case in the show (doesn't he sing solo?).
