Just a class act. Nice to see someone who continually journeys with their character through a long period finding new ways to explore them
Also planning on seeing Kyle when Billy is out. And 15-20k
A week for a Tony winning lead of a hit is a bargain.

I would strongly push back on the "20k per week" figure. That's completely unfounded and closer to a Patti LuPone salary; not a Billy Porter salary. I imagine 10-15k is a bit more realistic.
Also, there's not much money to roll in once you account for the deductions: state taxes, federal taxes, insurance fees, union dues, your agent's percentage, your manager's and/or attorney's percentage, etc., etc. The take-home pay from that number is significantly less.

Hence why he knows a good job when he sees it! Unless he's being offered another leading role in a Broadway production, or a television series, he knows he's best making some money while he can. And it doesn't hurt that it's a part tailored to his talents, and therefore likely fun to do.
Speaking of 'a Patti LuPone salary', I recall after GYPSY she was saying how the GYPSY pay was the first real, livable paycheck she had received. At first I thought, "That's quite a bit more than just livable for most people..." But then, on second thought, to have the name recognition, fame and achievement that she does, that's not actually a ton - especially not compared to her peers in film and television. An actor starring in a TV series, especially if their name was the draw, would be making far more than that an episode, a week.

Posted: 1/8/15 at 12:57pmI'm not suggesting that $10 - 15k isn't a lot of money, and Namo makes a great point about Billy's career, but simply pushing back against the "20k" number and the idea that he is "rolling in money." Far from it.

You even have a company who is interested and considerate enough to send their lead actor to his hometown to join the touring company so he can perform where he grew up in front of his friends, family and neighbors. Might that cost Broadway a few dollars that week? Perhaps... Might his 3 month leave also cause Broadway some dollars? I am sure that it will.
Basically Kinky Boots has been very good to Billy Porter and Billy Porter has been very good for Kinky Boots. It's great he wants to stay and is still excited about the role, it's great they are willing to have him stay with time off and it's great they are sending him to Pittsburgh, It's a win win situation when everyone is thinking about everyone else.
