Just performed this play last year as Charles Condomine! I love it and I cannot wait to see this production!
You can't mention 'Deuce' in the same breath as this classic masterpiece!
As I said when it was announced she was cast, its just her making sure she isn't remembered for her last performance on Broadway being in a dud two hander.
The theatre maybe big but some plays play well in larger houses, it happens in London quiet often and in other cities.
Hey, lets hope that even 'Blithe Spirit' isn't her last show on Broadway anyway.
God bless you Angie!
Broadway will be blithe again.

Oh, I think this cast and this fun show can fill the Shubert!
After the reviews came out, August: Osage County did fairly strong business filling the Imperial, a musical house that is just around the same size as the Shubert. While I might prefer to see Blithe Spirit in one of the smaller 1,000 seat playhouses, I don't think the Shubert will be inhospitable for it.

Now we all know Hair is going into the Herschfeld so that ends that discussion. True a play hasn't been seen at the Schubert since the seventies but it is a high profile house on a high profile corner with a high profile cast. Seems to me it's in a prime location and will be quite successful. In my opinion the Schubert is a very intimate house despite it's two balconies and 1,468 seats. The Neil Simon to me is a much more open auditorium and lends itself to more expansive shows. (Given the open air setting of central park, why wouldn't the Neil Simon be a good fit for Hair?)
also, I saw Deuce and it was a lousy play with two Major actresses. They deserved better material so it's no wonder they couldn't fill the house. Madame Arkaty (sp?) seems a much better fit for Ms. Lansbury.
Any word on tickets yet? I'm SO anxious!
The title of this thread sounds to me like the perfect name for a 60s screwball sex farce!

I'm totally excited for this new "Blithe Spirit." I saw the horrifying Blythe Danner production, and I think this new cast sounds terrific. Lansbury as Arcati? Genius.
But isn't is odd that "Hair" is going into the Martin Beck (sorry, the Hirschfeld), and a straight play is going into the Shubert? The Shubert has long been the "house" for musicals, and the Martin Beck has been a great location for straight plays. Seems like odd cross-programming, IMHO.

A play hasn't played the "martin beck" for the past 5 years.
(and I think it's a shame they renamed the Martin Beck. When I was there I was reading the thing about Martin Beck and it seems so rude. I mean, the man built the theater with his own money, etc, and then they just go and rename the theater. That's rude)

RentBoy86,
I don't know where you live, or how old you are, but there used to be this great advertisement in NYC on television, where Zoe Caldwell said "Come see me, at the MARTIN BECK" in this huge bosso profundo. It will always be the MARTIN BECK to me, even though I love Al Hirshfeld and think he deserves to have a theatre named after him.
Couldn't it have been the Plymouth?
