There will never be a cast with all of the different races and sexualities and genders and disabilities and ethnicities. Even if there was, I bet it wouldn't satisfy some people. So how about instead of pointing out flaws in the show, focus on the good things? The cast is made up of gay men who are all proud of who they are. I think that's amazing. I think of this production as a good thing and a progress when it comes to diverse casting. This show is the least of our problems right now."

If there's ever a perfect cast, the "woke" teens will still find something to complain about. Because if they don't complain, then they can't pretend to be outraged.

Why aren't you protesting the opening night of Angels in America ? Any of the "white" roles (including Roy Cohn) could be played by a person of color.

Do some of you posters know how read and comprehend or are you just looking for the first line you can be snarky and ‘witty’ about? I admit that I also don’t agree with the OP’s decision to protest. It seems like such a small and unproductive battle to fight in the grand scheme of things. And by telling his whole life story, I think his message got convoluted and confusing. But if you were truly trying to understand his point of view, you’d know the OP only has a problem with this production because of the way it’s being marketed. If Ryan Murphy is making statements about diversity, inclusion, breaking barriers, and representing a WHOLE community and then the cast doesn’t reflect that, people can draw two conclusions. That Murphy is misrepresenting the gay community or that is indeed what the gay community is supposed to look like. Had Murphy just said, I’m putting on a revival about gay men that actually star proud gay men, this thread probably wouldn’t exist. Again, I don’t think this a battle worth fighting but I do understand and even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t try to minimize someone’s feelings just because I don’t agree.

Can I clarify, where does Murphy make those statements? Even if he does, I do think there are many facets of 'diversity & inclusion', and surely an out gay cast would be one of them? I suppose it goes to an issue that I have raised before on this forum - the word 'diversity' has become synonymous with racial diversity. So I guess I can see that if someone uses the word 'diversity' today some people would probably expect this to include racial diversity (of which there is some in this cast, I might add!).

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I had the same question: where is all this "promotion"?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
