Bringing a group of drama students to NYC in January. Do you think HS students would like it?
Thank you -
I think high school kids would LOVE it! My friend and I were actually discussing that after we saw it (I am a high school teacher myself). It is not only great theater, but a good way for those who hate history to learn about it in a twisted way! The only concern I would have would be the language. I would definitely let parents know (I am pretty uptight about that kind of thing with parents) that it pretty heavy on the profanity (at least to my memory). Some of the jokes may be lost on the kids, but I say do it!

I'm very much considering bring my HS students to this....if it makes it to the Spring. (I hope, I hope, I hope.)

The language is definitely strong - the F-word. Then again, it's not anything these kids haven't heard or aren't using already.
BRING THEM. You will be the coolest, hippest teacher ever. It's really a show that kids can relate to and it will open their eyes to how cool Broadway can be.

I guess it's no worse than anything else high school age students are exposed to today. In fact at the performance I attended, I was seated next to a group of high school students brought by their teachers. Oddly enough, for a show that seems targeted at a younger demographic, these students didn't seem all that responsive. Nor was I, for that matter! In contrast, the teachers were wildly enthusiastic.

After Eight, I'm with you and the students.
When i sawit at the public i took one of my high school friends and we both hated it
the score was great but it seemed to just be a waste of time
however i will agree that it brings up alot about history and the systems you learn about in high school for example the electoral college etc so that might be a plus for students
but other than some of the laughs we had, we didnt enjoy the night out

i sat next to about five high school kids when i saw BBAJ off broadway. they were all in love. i think the show is almost tailor-made for them. If you're kids have the same reaction as the ones i met in the theater, I'd say an A+ show.

I didn't get a chance to see it myself - yet! - but my most emo friend saw it and actually said "It's too emo!" Which I thought was weird coming from her. Another friend loved it and went back multiple times, and she never does that! So I can't comment about taking high school kids to it, but I know I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it.
So far, I only have ONE of my student that has seen it. He loved it.
I don't know why we are suprised with mixed views-- no show is loved by everyone.
IF I bring my HS kids (they actually choose the shows we see) I'm sure it will have very mixed reactions.
Right after I saw it, I told my students all about it.They were all so excited about it and asked if I could take them (It was the end of the year....so it was not possible). One of my students who just graduated just emailed me and asked if I heard it was transferring. She's so excited to see it. Depending on my AP Gov class next year, I might try to take them down to see it. I plan on using the song about The Corrupt Bargain of 1824 to teach that next year....
My daughter, who will be a high school junior, LOVED this show! She said the cast was very nice at the stage door! Oh, and she said the guys were really cute!
