An early Rave (!) from Matthew Murray at Talkin Broadway. I've got a sneaky suspicion that this might be the trend (especially how Isherwood [I can't remember if it was him or Brantley] who reviewed the concert version last year, loved it!)

In that review, Matthew Murray -- he hates everything -- writes, "If you’re dying for something traditional, you’re better off at the likes of Yank! or The Scottsboro Boys. But if you want the best new musical of the season, get in line at The Public."

Ben Brantley in the New York Times:
"Idealism, resentment, a short attention span, a fear of being perpetually misunderstood and a ravenous sense of entitlement are mixed together here in one big, gawky, sexually charged package: America, the eternal teenager. And who better to lead this restless, appetite-driven creature than a red-blooded rock star?"

Posted: 4/7/10 at 11:46amI don't really see this transferring to Broadway, even with these good reviews. I'm glad it is doing well, and congratulations to everyone involved, but I think it should stay downtown in a smaller theatre. It would get lost in a Broadway house.

Posted: 4/7/10 at 12:10pmNot even a smaller house like the Helen Hayes or the Golden? Just asking. I'm pretty sure the Booth will be tied up with Next to Normal for a while.

I would find a transfer unlikely - as interesting as I found Bloody Bloody, it makes RENT look like HELLO DOLLY, commercially. However, unlikely is not impossible; as we've seen, people will put their money into some awfully strange ventures...
Congratulations to Michael Friedman for finally getting some much-deserved attention in the press.

Maybe the Helen Hayes, but it would be a stretch, and the Hayes is taken for the time being.
On the other hand, one never knows.

Posted: 4/7/10 at 1:13pmWell, could we at least get a cast recording? I'm guessing at least an extension will be planned! I'd love to see it again, I saw it twice here in LA and loved it, but would love to see how it has been tightened up. All that being said, I'm glad that it is getting the press it is!

Posted: 4/7/10 at 1:34pmI know this is a ridiculously broad question but if you guys had to guess, what are the chances that this will sell out for the rest of the run? I'm debating getting a rush ticket at some point tomorrow for a later date.

It's really hard to tell, Rocks. Out of curiosity, I went online to look at tickets last night and was able to find a front row center seat for two weeks from now. I haven't checked since the reviews came out.
I haven't been hearing a *ton* of buzz about it, but with those reviews, who knows now?

You can't purchase RUSH tickets for advance sale, they are only for that performance. You can purchase a student ticket with ID, but you have to be there in person and have cash. I bought tickets through their website, but I had two friends try for RUSH. One had no problem, but the other couldn't get it for the performance he wanted. So it sounds like it is usually possible, though they may not have as many on certain days.
I'm probably running in different circles than Kad because I am definitely feeling the buzz for this show - all my friends are talking about it. Those of us who went loved it and are spreading the word as well.

Posted: 4/12/10 at 2:25pmStudent tickets are $25 and can be bought in advance. BUT you have to pay cash and go in person to The Public. Rush is every night for that night's show and only $20 but there is no guarantee that they will be available. The lady who mans the line told me that it varies night to night and if they are totally sold out, they may not have any. From time to time, I have seen the Public send out tweets about their RUSH tickets so it may be worth to follow them on Twitter.

Posted: 4/14/10 at 2:03pmJust got a tweet from the Public that Rush seats for tonight are very likely. Thought I'd update those of you interested. Would be great if they did this every night, right now it's sporadic. But still a good idea.
