Saw the new cast tonight, and am pleased to report that the show hasn't missed a beat. It's still a hilarious, laugh out loud, farce that is incredibly entertaining.
The two holdovers, Rylance and Baranski remain comic perfection. Baranski seems to be still discovering little bits of her character, and her performance remains as fresh as ever. I noticed a lot of little things added to her performance that were not there the last time I saw the show. Rylance is still magnificent, giving a comedic bravura performance. Enough said.
As for the newbies, Greg Germann is a much less neurotic Bernard than Bradley Whitford was. He's more panicky, but it still works really well for him. He and Rylance don't have quite the same chemistry that Rylance and Whitford had, but that's to be expected considering they probably didn't get extensive rehearsals together.
Missi Pyle as Gretchen was even more over the top and ridiculous than the fabulous Mary McCormack. I loved every minute of Pyle's performance. Like McCormack, she just goes at it with reckless abandon.
I liked Paige Davis' giddier Gloria more than Kathryn Hahn (who I really liked as well). Paige mad her even more flirtatious.
Rebecca Gayheart was a fine Gabriella, though I did find myself missing Gina Gershon.
This cast has gelled extremely well together and they all play off of each other very nicely. The show remains tight, and the laughs are still plentiful. Definitely worth a return visit to see the "new flight crew."
Rylance delivered a hilarious BC/EFA speech, as if he were the captain on a plane giving instructions to the passengers.
To answer the inevitable...my TDF ticket was in orchestra E1. The orchestra was about 85% full, the mezz was half full, and the balcony was closed. The usher said they expected this on Halloween night and actually expected it to be more empty.

So, if I didn't care for 39 Steps do you think I'd still like this? I've been putting it off because after that "farce," I didn't want to waste my time at a show that I just wouldn't enjoy.
Is Matt Bogart's wife in this show? I thought she was. I saw "Jersey Boys" tonight (and I enjoyed myself immensely) and Matt was waiting around the stage door like he was waiting for someone, I thought maybe he was waiting for her, but maybe not. Sorry, random question.
Did you not try for student rush? And was E1 partial view?

thanks for the review!
I really want to go back and see Greg Germann's and Rebecca Gayheart's takes on the characters.

I thought The 39 Steps was a chaotic mess and I loved Boeing Boeing.
Is Matt Bogart's wife in this show?
She is the standby for all three stewardesses.
Did you not try for student rush?
No, I'm not a student anymore. The student rush seats are in the boxes, which are horrendously obstructed, as you miss many of the entrances and exits via the doors.
And was E1 partial view?
No, it was on the aisle. An excellent seat.

Posted: 11/1/08 at 1:24amI made the mistake of getting the student rush tickets the second time I saw this show. First time I got a great mid balcony seat via TKTS. If your a student, I suggest getting a rear balcony ticket that is only 36 bucks. If the balcony is closed off then they will move you down. But, at least you got a cheaper ticket.

Posted: 11/1/08 at 4:00amRentboy, I think the ticket was like fifty bucks plus the five buck TKTS service charge. In the end everything came down to like 55 bucks.

I have front row seats for Boeing Boeing on Thursday, and I can't wait.
After seeing with the original cast twice, I am excited to hear that the new foursome is just as hilarious. I look forward to seeing it for myself.

Not to mention that 39 STEPS isn't a farce.
The only thing 39 STEPS and BOEING BOEING have in common is that they're comedies.
Personally, I found 39 STEPS to be mostly a bore, and I enjoyed BOEING BOEING a lot more.

It wasn't a TKTS ticket. I'm a member of TDF, and paid $35.50 for my ticket.
With regards to the student rush seats, I noticed that after intermission, every single person in those seats had relocated to somewhere else. Those seats were empty for act 2.

Posted: 11/1/08 at 12:43pmI'm so glad to hear that the new cast members are up to par. I really want to get back to the Longacre for a third time soon to see this again. And that's a fantastic seat to get through TDF, you really lucked out.

I saw the show last Saturday and really enjoyed the new cast members especially Missi. Pippa Pearthree was on for Christine Baranski and I enjoyed her a lot as well.
Mark is still perfection.

It took them the first scene (which is a bit slow anyway) to really get into it. However, there was plenty of laughter throughout. Unlike the last time I saw the show, however, there were no moments where they stopped mid-scene to applaud, with the exception of one of Missi Pyle's funnier moments involving the carpet.
And no one got entrance applause.
They did give an enthusiastic standing ovation when the full cast bowed after the dance.

Well, you obviously think there is something wrong with your grammar and spelling skills, since you edited your last post in which you spelled feud "fude."
Honey, just go to school. Please.

Glad to hear Boeing Boeing is still doing well! I'm seeing it again Election Day and I can't wait.
Oh, and Winston? "Your" is possessive. "You're" means "you are." Therefore, you would say, "WannaBeAFoster, you're an idiot and a tool," rather than "WannaBeAFoster, your an idiot and a tool." "Percent" is one word, and you don't "loose" something unless you're untying it. You "lose" it.
