Matt Bogart, the Broadway actor recently seen as Lancelot in the national tour of Camelot, will join the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys Sept. 30 at the August Wilson Theatre.
Bogart succeeds J. Robert Spencer in the role of Nick Massi. Spencer, who created that role at the La Jolla Playhouse and subsequently on Broadway, will offer his final performance Sept. 14. In the interim the role will be played by John Leone.
Bogart will join a cast that currently includes Sebastian Arcelus as Bob Gaudio, Christian Hoff as Tommy DeVito, Michael Longoria as Frankie Valli and Peter Gregus as Bob Crewe.
Matt Bogart was seen as Paul in the Kennedy Center mounting of Stephen Sondheim's Company, and his Broadway credits include Aida, The Civil War, Miss Saigon and Smokey Joe's Cafe. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music, Bogart has appeared in regional productions of Camelot, Carousel and Side Show. He was also part of the premiere cast of Frank Wildhorn's Camille Claudel at Goodspeed, and his recent theatrical credits include Himself and Nora (Old Globe), Phantom (Music Theatre of Wichita), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Kennedy Theatre) and Romance/Romance (Paper Mill Playhouse).

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Posted: 9/3/08 at 1:34pmGood for Matt! I've seen him as Radames in AIDA and Joe Hardy in DAMN YANKEES and he was excellent in both shows. I wish him well in his run in JERSEY BOYS.

Posted: 10/22/08 at 7:14pmOh, no clue he was in this! I might have to get standing room seats for this on Friday or Saturday night! Although I hate standing room, ha! Especially for a 2.5 hour show.

With a good cast, it is. And you can always take off your shoes!
(I admit, though, I've never done SRO for Jersey Boys [just Spelling Bee], but I have also seen JB over 30 times.)

Posted: 10/23/08 at 10:24pmWell, I did standing room for "Next to Normal" without realizing it. They didn't have a seat for me, but sold me a student ticket, so I just stood at the back and watched the show. Granted, i could lean on the railing so it wasn't so bad.
