Someone here has to know the truth behind this --

-- is there any? I know it has more seats, but I love the O'Neill for this show. Don't know how they would figure out the ticket logistics, with O'Neill seats on sale through April 2012. Or am I just gullible and this is all fake? Seems too smart a move for it to be completely made up.
Considering the O'Neill is a Jujamcyn house and the Marquis is a Nederlander house, this is highly unlikely.
Did not even think to check who owned the houses. That is a good point -- probably isn't real, then.
Slightly off-topic: How does one pronounce "Jujamcyn," and more importantly, is there anywhere I can hear Patti LuPone say it? Thanks.

I don't know about the Patti part, but it's pronounced "Jew-Jam-Sin."

It's pronounced Jew-Jam-Sin.
Ju, Jam and Cyn are abbreviations of people's names.
It could do with moving to another theatre - some of the seats in the Eugene O'Neill have very poor leg room and the lack of restrooms makes the queues at imtermission very long. I almost missed the start of the 2nd act as a result when I saw it on Tuesday.
Just out of curiosity, what are the logistics of moving from, say, a Jujamcyn house to a Nederlander house? Has that sort of thing ever happened before?
Moving is such a costly and complicated thing, particularly for a show that's basically sold out for months. I don't see this materializing.
Not to mention that in a smaller theater with less seats, tickets remain a hotter commodity. More seats would be great, but yeah, for many reasons, I don't see this being legit.

And not to mention, the Marquis is in a Marriott property, with a Book of Mormon inside every room.
I figured with the roat of Follies at the Kennedy center right now that they would try and bring it in there for a run.

If it were to move, it would probably go to the St. James, also a Jujamcyn.
I don't know how much the theatre owners figure into it unless they are also producers of a show. If the producers of "Mormon" are just renting the O'Neill then what is there to stop them from renting another available theatre?
Chicago went from a Nederlander to a Shubert. 42nd Street went from a Shubert to Shubert to Jujamcyn. Tap Dance Kid went from Shubert to Nederlander. There are many, many more.
ahhrealmonsters, ON A CLEAR DAY... has the St. James booked for the fall.
The Marquis is a cursed theatre, you could move 'Mormon' there and the gross would drop 50% and the show would close.
I don't believe in theatre curses, but the Marquis is one of the most heinously ugly and personality-less theatres out there. I hope it doesn't move, if only because I despise that venue. The St. James on the other hand.... UPGRADE.
Didn't White Christmas play there to success though?
What is it about the Marquis that has allowed so few shows to be successful there?
Bwayphreak - The only legitimate reason I can think of is that the place is freakin' huge. The angles are pretty awful. The balcony is scary high and really far from the stage. I sat there for Priscilla, pretty bad.
I'm imagining the rent is also pretty high there too.
And the shows that have been at the Marquis lately have been terrible...
broadwaydevil - are you thinking of the Palace?
Walkedthroughmany - good point. Yes, yes I was, LOL.
The only show I saw at the Marquis was Peter Pan and that was too long ago to remember many details haha.
Judy, James, Cynthia - Rocco's kids.
It was not named after Rocco's kids. I believe it was named after James Binger's children. The Jujamcyn organization existed before Rocco Landesman was brought in the mid-1980's.
The August Wilson Theatre used to tbe the Virginia which was named after Virginia Binger.

I believe there was an interview a couple weeks back in which a Book of Mormon producer said that they had considered moving to another, larger theatre, but ultimately decided against it because they rightly wanted to keep their show a "hot ticket".
