I saw something posted earlier and I thought of some "classic" books I read when I was younger that would be cool onstage.

Little House on the Prarie
The Bridge To Teribitha
Johnny Tremain
Where The Red Fern Grows
Sweet Whispers Brother Rush
Ramona The Brave
Sarah, Plain and Tall
Sounder
Charlotte's Web
Manic Magee
The War With Grandpa
A Seperate Piece

Yeah, it is...Where The Red Fern Grows would be a great musical, I think. Charlotte's Web is already a musical, too.

Unmasked- when I first saw the title to this thread, my first thought was "Bridge to Teribitha." I didn't think anyone else remembered that book. Well, you stole my one idea, so...

Almost all of those titles have been adapted for the stage, though not all as musicals-- supposedly LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE is in development for a Broadway musical.

The Fitzgerald estate won't let GREAT GATSBY be musicalized. A composing team wrote a musical version of it a few years ago without the rights and were quickly shelved.

An opera version of The Great Gatsby by John Harbison premiered at the Met in 1999. It got somewhat mixed reviews, but I wish I had seen it.

Charlottes Web was a musical...not a very good one but it was made, not as a musical but as a play Go Ask Alice would be very moving and strong.

Bridge to Terabitha is a musical (i think) I have a script at home.

<--- the set of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I was assistant stage manager for during the 2007 season at the STNJ outdoor stage.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

I loved Mansfield Park, Wuthering Heights, My Antonia, and Frankenstein. I heard talk about Frankenstein maybe w/ Kristin Chenoweth awhile back but I haven't heard anythign recently, I think all these books could make good shows.

Was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ever made into a live production?

Yes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was made into a musical. MTI owns the rights to it, but i think it's restricted still. I could be wrong though.

I think some of the Roald Dahl books would make great musicals, especially "The Witches". I'm surprised to that they haven't made Charle and the Chocolate Factory into a musical. It's a gold mine-as long as they do it like the old one and NOT the new one!

Has anyone ever attempted a musical version of "To Kill A Mockingbird"?

"Witches" has also been made into a musical. I know nothing about it other than that it exists.

I would have IMMEDIATELY said 'Walk Two Moons' but, I'm so excited to say, it's opening off-broadway very soon!

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi would be pretty cool as a musical.

I'd love to see some Jane Austen works made into musicals. Also, there is a play of it (though not a very good one) I have always thought that THE WITCH OF BLACKBIRD POND would make a phenomenal musical.
