Borstalboy- love it :)
I'd be interested to see what type of musical Catcher in the Rye would spawn. It was one of my favorite books.
Other than that, anything David Sedaris would make a very interesting musical!"Lea's Book of Rules for the World" would also be a great show if done correctly.

Just for the record catcher in the rye and great gatsby arent childrens books.
I cannot see Catcher in the Rye being done as a musical, play, or movie. Its so intense and personal, its practically a diary...musicals are better at painting broader pictures...maybe a one man show?
Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe intrigues me but ill wait to comment further until I see the Lord of the Rings musical as the 2 are so similar.

Matilda, Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farms, and Peppermints in the Parlor were my favorites.
PITP would really work as a musical- very dark. Anyone ever read it?
Oh and I also adored A Cricket in Times Square and The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. I loved reading when I was a kid. I was knew all the gossip of the Babysitters Club.

April Morning.....? I suppose
True confessions of Charlotte Doyle wasn't very interesting, but it may make a good musical.
A LONG WAY FROM CHICAGO is already a play, but it would make a good musical. So would some of the books from Richard Peck's Blossom Culp series. maybe.
-My fault, I fear.

GO ASK ALICE is a book, a movie, a play, but not a musical. It's about a teenaged girl who dies of a drug overdose. Not exactly musical material.
Maybe you think it's a musical because the title comes from the Jefferson Airplane song "White Rabbit":
ONE PILL MAKES YOU LARGER
AND ONE PILL MAKES YOU SMALL
AND THE ONES THAT MOTHER GIVES YOU
DON'T DO ANYTHING AT ALL
GO ASK ALICE
WHEN SHE'S TEN FEET TALL.
Or maybe you are thinking of the musical revue A... MY NAME IS ALICE.

You may find this odd, but I'm re-reading HANS BRINKER right now. I read it as a kid, but after visiting Holland a few weeks ago I wanted to re-read the story about the little boy who put his finger in a dike to save an entire town.
In the right hands, this could make a delightful musical. Just think of how a choreographer could stage ice skating ballets on the frozen canals.

Posted: 8/31/05 at 12:03amDid you guys ever read the book "Call It Courage" about a Polynesian boy named Mafatu? It was one of my favorite books and there is a musical being made of it now -- there was a reading last year at the York Theatre and the music is AMAZING!! I think you can find it online somewhere.
