re: Boy George

Can you imagine him in prison- screaming and mincing down those corridors to the shower rooms every day!
Love it- he's gonna write a book a musical and make a fortune from this episode!

re: Boy George

I went to school very near where George did at Eltham Green- he was a couple of years above me- even then he cut a spectacular dash!

It would be terrible if we lost him early- he is a talented person with more to create still. I hope he comes out of this in a better place.

re: Boy George

course he will.

he'll be on i'm a celeb after it and then he'll re-release his back catalogue.

i would be intrigued for taboo2 - the prison years though....

re: Boy George

I think its wrong what he's being put through because of some whore.

re: Boy George

i guess noone knows what actually went on apart from those who were there...but i have a feeling it is a case of someone trying to get their five minutes of fame as well as some cash..at the expense of a celebrity..
#8

re: Boy George

I get that feeling too.

Just as I was saying he was the Blitz kid who did all the ****ing up back in the day so was the only one not screwed up now...

re: Boy George

15 months seems a bit severe.

re: Boy George

I never saw Taboo, don't know if it was good or not, is there many fans of the show on here?

re: Boy George

I was astonished that the case went to court in the first place and equally so that the judge didn't dismiss the case. Surely the fact that the "male escort" had already sold his story to a foreign publication prejudiced his position. It seems the judge, in his sentencing, took into account George's recent fracas with the law in New York which, if true, is grossly unfair as George has already served his sentence for that.

re: Boy George

I like Taboo. The ending comes out of nowhere and the lyrics are clumsy in places, but generally it's a good show.

re: Boy George

Taboo is a brilliant show with an amazing score (one of the best of the decade) but they never got the book quite right. The London one had a terrible ending and some unnecessary characters and the Broadway version didn't have a central focus, but the book for all its flaws was more interesting than any of the new musicals ive seen in a while

re: Boy George

the orchestrations for the broadway production of taboo were much much better than the london one. they had improved the book a little in places but the americans i guess just didn't take to it... its too british for them probably.

i would love to re-direct taboo and bring it back with a fresh take and a re-jig of the book.

re: Boy George

I loved the score of Taboo but also felt that the show had a split personality: did it want to follow the young lad who was new to London, or was it George's biography?

Stranger to the World is a gorgeous ballad as is Il Adore. And Matt Lucas was amazing, too.

I do think those who work in the sex industry deserve adequate protection, but this particular story does seem more than dubious.

re: Boy George

out of fashion, in my opinion is one of the best 5 part pieces for men in musical theatre out there.

Simple, but so so powerful

re: Boy George

Our company has been trying to obtain rights to this show since Jan last year, it just aint gonna happen

re: Boy George

Who produced the national tour with Julian Clary? How are the rights tied up now?

The 5-part Out of Fashion is much the work of the very talented vocal arranger, Martin Lowe.

re: Boy George

haha when george was at the lowry last year i asked him about it as we were gassing and i told him i'd love to bring it back and re-direct it. he told me in very nice words that it wouldnt be surfacing again for a very long time, if at all lol.

one name - rosie o' donnell

re: Boy George

Rosie has the rights (kinda) but so does a small UK company who also own the rights (its very complicated)

For some stupid reason Rosie will not release the rights, i mean i love me some Rosie but i just wanna scream at her 'GIVE US OUR F*****G SHOW BACK' lol

re: Boy George

maybe we should go hunt rosie down, hold her ransom til she gives us the rights and we can both re-produce it in Manchester.....

re: Boy George

It's so frustrating isn't it? Rather like 'Carrie', the original producers and even creators ought to let go. A fresh team and a new set of brains could work wonders!

And as for Rosie, what possible claim can she have to UK productions? However agreed that contract needs a slap.
#23

re: Boy George

i disagree there. carrie should be left well alone

a fantastic flop.
thats the reason people still talk about it!!

I was chatting to Mary Ann Lamb recently, who was in both the original UK and USA casts of the show and she says that even now people still bring Carrie merchandise for her to sign, and talk to her about it!

its like a cult! for being a flop!

re: Boy George

With that reasoning, we would never have had the Chicago revival. (Whatever state it's in now, it was awesome when it opened with Ute Lemper!)

For those of us who remember the original at Stratford, and/ or have seen or heard the recordings, it is clear that there is some interesting material, worthy of further attention, plus some 80s dross rejected from Fame. However, the creators were right- at heart is a very dramatic tragic story.

re: Boy George

I think it would be cool if there was a revival. After he gets out he might have the star power to make one. I really like Taboo I would like to see it in person I only have the album.
