Right now I can only think of Joey McIntire. Which other boy band members are on at the moment? Is it really an invasion?

I saw Joey McIntyre perform in "tick...tick...BOOM!" when it toured through Boston. I thought he was very good. He had sounded wonderful with all of the music. His acting was very good, too. I'm looking forward to seeing him in "Wicked". He if could play Jonathan in "tick...tick...BOOM!" I'm SURE he can play Fiyero with no problem...
I think that Broadway should be saved for performers that are trained in theatrical arts. I don't think that being in a boy band necessarily qualifies you for that.
I know. Granted, I have never seen any of these "boy band" members act in theater (Although I have seen Joey Mc. in the film version of "The Fantasticks." And although he wasn't the greatest, he impressed me), but who cares if they were in a boy band. If they can act and sing, then there is no problem in my eyes whether or not they come to broadway.

I have no problem with Joey McIntire. He's done enough theatre to make himself qualified, in my opinion. He did off-Broadway work before coming to Broadway. A lot of these other "stars" did not do that. Drew Lachey? I don't think so.
There are wonderful people on Broadway all the time who have no formal 'training in the theatrical arts'.
If someone can do the job, then why should they be barred if they haven't taken classes in the theatrical arts?
I have no desire to see Joey Fatone in LSOH cause I found LSOH to be painfully mediocre. And it was populated with people trained in the theatrical arts.

Not that he qualifies as boy band, but, Jon Secada was really good in the revival of "Grease". It was the perfect vehicle for him. Though I heard he wasn't so great in Cabaret.

I agree, robbiej. Someone doesn't need specific theaterical training to be able to perform on Broadway. There are many many television and movie stars who eventually end up in a Broadway show. While it's true that many of these actors STARTED in theatre, it is not always the case. If someone can do the job, there is not reason why they shouldn't be able to.
I'm not a huge fan of stunt casting but I am a fan of giving an artist a chance. I LOVED Raul Esparza in Tick, Tick and was very, very wary of seeing Joey Mcintyre step into the role. Joey totally blew me away and since then, I've been pretty open minded to any and all performers.
And while I'm not so sure about Scary Spice and Drew Lachey per se, I do have to thank them for bringing a different and younger audience to Broadway. In the long run, if someone comes to the theater hoping to catch Joey Fatone and winds up loving musicals, that's a plus in my book.

There are some people in the world who say that writing stories, or composing music or dancing sparkly dances is easy for them. Nothing interferes with their ability to create. While I celebrate their creative freedom, a little part of me just wants to punch those motherf*ckers in the teeth...[tos]
