How is Drew Lachey in RENT?

I thought Joey Fatone was pretty good in LSOH and when he was in RENT. Of course he wasn't quite up to most of the other Marks... but still decent.

I hate the idea, and was an enormous skeptic, but here's what I had to say about Lachey:

Drew... Well, he wasn't the trainwreck that I'd expected, and he was better than Joey Fatone, I thought. He wasn't awful, and I guess I'm kind of on the fence as to what to say my overall opinion of him is. His negatives outweigh his positives, but I didn't hate him. He has a nice voice, but it's very... boy band-ish, obviously. When he's not too whiny, he's actually very pleasant to listen to, but that's kind of a sporadic occurence. It seems like he's almost trying too hard to be nasally, because that's the Mark stereotype. His speech and singing were a little bit robotic sometimes, but not others, and his enunciation and articulation were really poor, to the point that had I not been very familiar with his lines, I may have found myself pulling a "wait, what'd he say?" a couple of times. His acting wasn't too bad; he plays a pretty sweet, goofy, clumsy, slightly lovable Mark, but it's not gone overboard. He was distant when the time came, but he has a decent amount of presence when he needed to show it. I'm not cursing myself that I actually caved and went to see him, so I guess that's a good thing.

I think he keeps getting better, so that's good. Right?! He wasn't bad. I enjoyed his performance.

I saw Drew in RENT. I have no one to compare him to (since it was my first time seeing the show) but I thought he was just ok. There was nothing special, nothing that stood out. He wasn't bad by any means but just very bland!

However, as far as boyband boys on Broadway goes, I was a fan of Joey McIntyre in Wicked!

Although he is kinda a "former" ex-member of a boy band,I saw Joey MacIntyre in Wicked, and I thought he was good. Alot of people did, well who saw it with me, and I am a hard judge when it comes to singers of bands coming to broadway.

i saw him twice and both times he was just ok. He never blew me away nor did he dissapoint me. He was just ok. His voice was kind of week but it worked and his acting was decent but nothing spectacular. So yeah just ok in my opinion. :)

I saw Drew in Rent (my second time seeing the show, first time was a tour.) And I didn't think he was bad at all. Obviously not as great as it could have been, but I really enjoyed some things he did with the character. His voice took a little getting used to (I hated the way he sang "December 24th.." that whole line. it was just weird.) but it wasn't bad by any means.

I saw Joey in Wicked and LOVED him. Loved him loved him loved him. And he took a picture with me at the stage door and we touched shoulders. Ahem. Anyway. Good stuff.

Hmmmm, I just don't see McIntyre as Fiyero... David Ayers is still playing that part now, isn't he?

Joey Mac was actually pretty good. I wanted to complain about him, but I couldn't.

Joey McIntyre left Wicked on 1/9 and David Ayers took over the role of Yero on January 11th

I'll be seeing Rent for my first time next weekend...I'm a little scared to see Drew as Mark, I'm so used to hearing Anthony on the OBCR. I've heard mixed reviews about Drew, but at this rate I'm expecting the show to be amazing and him as mediocre

hmm...

i personally don't like drew on broadway, and i have seen him get a little better but still, for a broadway show, Mark should kick some serious butt!

I don't really think pop people should be ON broadway.. some really don't have the voice.. look at Scary Spice as Mimi.. that was...... a train reck!

I don't think you can really make that judgement... some pop people may have the vocal ability (not to mention the respect for theatre) to be on Broadway... some.

I dont care if they are in it, so long as they are good at the part. if they suck, they shouldnt get it even though they are famous.

I liked Drew in Rent a lot and I've seen most of the Marks from Anthony Rapp to the present.

Joey Mcintyre was a pretty good Fiyero but he was a fabulous Jonathan in Tick, Tick...boom. He was much better in a smaller venue.

Scary Spice was a horror show.

I actually didn't care for Joey McIntyre as Fiyero at ALL. I thought his acting was abysmal. He was nothing compared to Norbert, nothing at all...

I have no one to compare Joey McIntyre to, since he's the only Fiyero I've seen. But I must say, I spent more time spazzing over the fact that Joey was 20 feet away from me than I did worrying about his acting ability. I had a crush on him when I was 5, for Christ's sake, so I gave him a bit of leniency for that. That and the fact that he's been acting for years in various venues, so it wasn't like he went straight from NKOTB to Broadway.

However, I don't really like boyband member stunt casting in general. I refused to go see Rent in NYC this summer because I did not want to see Scary Spice, but as soon as she left, they brought in Drew Lachey. I can't believe he gets credit for being in Newlyweds, too- it's a reality show, he's not acting, and he's not even the subject of the show. I just think it's tacky.

I saw Joey in Wicked, I hadnt seen the show before like someone else said I all I had to compare him to was Norbert on the cd and I liked Joey as Fiyero, He was pretty good so I cant deny it besides his vocal was good and acting was pretty good so... yeah

What makes me mad is people like Tamyra Grey from American Idol in Bombay Dreams... ugh... why bring in a reality show star to be on Bway... I mean I love American Idol and reality tv but reality tv and Bway dont mix!

I don't think there's really anything wrong with American Idol people on Broadway... they're struggling singers who want to make it... aren't they? (Unless they're the type that just want to be on TV and whatnot)

I loved Joey McIntyre as a kid too... I was excited to see him, even. I walked in with a positive- to- open mind. And he just wasn't that good. Honestly, I didn't feel as though I got to see the same quality show with him in it.
I believe the best person for the role should always be cast, but the sad truth is, producers have to do what's best for the show monetarily before they do what's best, art- wise and talent- wise.
Tamyra Gray wasn't awful; she wasn't that good either. I only have the London cast to compare her too, but she was pretty nondescript in my opinion. If she hadn't been Tamyra, I would've forgotten her character and her name by the next day.
And the Shakalaka Baby thing in the Thanksgiving Day Parade was a disgrace.
