Atleast that's what my orthodontist said...I was supposed to get them off next month. That's not gonna happen.

I want them off NOW. I need to be SEXY.

mine said the same to me! mine are supposed to be off NOW, but he decided to proloooooooooong it till AFTER my sweet 16...wayyyy after. erg

Yeah. For me, "2-3 months" translated to "2-3 years." But most people have better luck than me in the orthodontry department.

I had them on for exactly 3 years. Worth it though - my teeth are SOO nice now.

Plum, you're not the only one who heard that... Thank God it's over. They actually threatened me with bands a few weeks ago. I refuse. I don't care if my molars are off-kilter. I really, really don't.

Mine come off in two weeks! I was offered the choice of having them when I was 12, but I (of course) chose not to, so then I asked my orthodontist what he could do in the three months of summer I was home from school, so we did whirl-wind braces. I'm very excited for them to be off soon though.

Why do we play with fire? Why do we run our fingers through the flame? Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain? -tick...tick...BOOM!

I'm told I'll have mine off around Christmas, which is awesome, because I was supposed to have them on for 2 years... and Christmas makes just a little over 1.

How's this for fun? After 8+ years of treatment I got my braces off and went to visit Israel while they were manufacturing my retainer. I got back a few weeks later and my teeth had shifted. What did my orthodontist propose? Braces, of course!

I said no. Much more politely than I was saying it in my head.

Plum, that was just mean of him. Are your teeth still straight looking, though?

It's wierd how fast your teeth DO shift though- I can feel a difference if I leave my retainer out for one night. I have one of those clear plastic ones that I'm supposed to wear to bed.

A couple of my teeth are slightly off, but it's nothing people notice. Still, I'm pissed as hell that after all that time I didn't come out with absolutely straight teeth.

As well you should be.

My mouth is very small and my jaw will never line up perfectly without surgery. It drives my orthodontist crazy, but I don't care. No one can tell and I can still function, so I say let it go.

When I was a child I was told I'd have to wear my braces a maximum of 23 months. I ended up having to wear them for almost 5 years.

Be patient- you'll be very happy once they finally come off.

I didn't think the pain of braces would be worth it- but I am v. v. happy to have straight teeth.

(Although I did beg my ortho to leave my Madonna tooth-gap alone. Alas, he fixed it.)

Parks, think how beautiful your smile will be, once they are off. I remember being jealous of kids who wore them, and begged my parents to let me get them. The fact that I didn't need them made no difference to me. I wanted them!! Alas, I never got them.

When Parks gets his braces off...be expecting a HUGE party FILLED with:

-gum chewing
-hard candy
-ice cream (why is that on the list of "do not have"?)
-other things you're not supposed to have when you have braces

Yeah, it's gonna be awesome...if it ever does happen.

My brother wore braces, and I don't recall ice cream being on his "do not have" list. Well, if it was, he sure ate a lot of it. Popcorn was the thing that bothered him most. He always wanted it.

You should be grateful that you will EVER get them off. Some people have to wear them their whole lives. And not on their TEETH!

I want to see a picture of Plum's teeth.

I never wore braces. I had a tiny gap in my front teeth but, as luck would have it, my wisdom teeth started coming in and pushed those bitches together.

Wisdom teeth though, are truly Satin's spawn. For anyone yet to have theirs taken out -- make sure you have the procedure where they knock you out cold. No swelling or bruising.

I have all my wisdom teeth. They make my cheeks puffy. No plans to have them removed, though.

I had all four wisdome teeth removed at once, and it's the first (and only) time I was ever put completely out with the anesthetic - it frightened me because you had to sign a waiver saying you were aware that you could die under the anesthetic and not hold the Dr. responsible, but it was worth it - I only had pain and swelling for about a day and then things were back to normal.

You should get them removed, or they can cause major pain/headaches, not to mention get infected.

I was knocked out cold, but when I awoke the pharmacy had run out of painkillers, and I was in hell for several hours...

CM2 -- I would definitely consider getting them taken out. Especially if you are a gay male who is vain...
