In spite of what a no-name blogger says, box office rarely has much impact on Best Picture winners.

Let's also consider the fact that Sasha Stone is off her nut most of the time.

I've seen the movie and there is no way that it is a right wing propaganda film.

And though box office doesn't always have pull over wins, do you really think Titanic would have won that year if it had flopped? And I believe the last movie to win best picture and flop was The Last Emperor in 1987 (probably because it was almost four hours long and insanely boring).

Just to get a sense of the direction of your compass, did you see Zero Dark Thirty? Was there any way that was propaganda of any stripe?

Why does that movie have to do with American Sniper? And I didn't think that was propaganda either, though I didn't like that it seemed to advocate for torture. I also just didn't think it was a particularly good movie, though. Propaganda is movies like the Atlas Shrugged movies or Left Behind, and in terms of war movies, Top Gun (they actually set up recruiting booths at some theatres when that movie was playing).

"And I didn't think that was propaganda either …"

Great, thanks. That helps me contextualize your pronouncement about American Sniper: "I've seen the movie and there is no way that it is a right wing propaganda film."

To use the language of the young people, I'm trying to understand "where you're at" and "where you're coming from."

^ Using lines from ASSASSINS to sound like the language of young people is a ploy whose irony will be totally lost on these actual children you're addressing.

In between WHIPLASH and AMERICAN SNIPER, folks seem to be giving up a lot of love for its Amurrican crypto-fascists.

"Chris Kyle, a US navy Seal from Texas, was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and claimed to have killed more than 255 people during his six-year military career. In his memoir, Kyle reportedly described killing as “fun”, something he “loved”; he was unwavering in his belief that everyone he shot was a “bad guy”. “I hate the damn savages,” he wrote. “I couldn’t give a flying **** about the Iraqis.” He bragged about murdering looters during Hurricane Katrina, though that was never substantiated.

"He was murdered in 2013 at a Texas gun range by a 25-year-old veteran reportedly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder."

Chickens coming home to roost.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I watched this movie last night, knowing nothing about the dude going in, and I kept waiting to figure out why I was meant to care about him.... and then the end credits rolled.

Would it be too affirmative action to suggest they should have nominated the actor who played the man who got shot over the actor playing the man who shot other people and thought it was "fun"? Too soon? Not soon enough?

Not really, JJ. He put out murder into the world and it came right back at him. Good riddance.

How am I a coward? And how am I wrong?

I take it you believe in the American Hero-ing of this sociopathic mediocrity (Kyle, not Cooper)?

"How am I a coward? And how am I wrong?

How are you not? You're under the impression evil doesn't exist. I assure you that if you traveled to where you think is so cute and deserty that you would be on their list of people that don't deserve to live.

That is the area in which homosexuals are lynched just for existing...assumed to be such. Being jailed for a small amount of pot for a lifetime.

I'll wait for you to come back with lame laws that are elsewhere in the West and there will be no argument that there are such, but you live in such countries. For if the countries you're defending are so wonderful, why don't you live there yourself?

I would never fight in a war. I would jail first before ever going to war. I cannot kill anyone. I won't think that such people who do join the military are mindless and stupid when it is in fact those people who keep the crazies from doing what they do over there...here (America).

It was Hollywood that did propaganda films for Germany when the Nazis were rising to power. They were cowards. The reports were coming in what Hitler was doing, but Hollywood couldn't help themselves to prop up the very man they defended as GREAT for Germany. So fantastic. He was turning that economy around. How could he be that vile?

No different than you and your "murder" idea.

Coward indeed. Hidden behind your screen giggling that someone died. You must be so proud to be someone who dislikes guns and then someone to die by the very thing they used to protect you from dying by nut cases who hate you for living anywhere in the WEST is just deserts. Ugh. So disgusting.

I guess those French artist at that wonderful satirical magazine deserved what they got for mocking a religion, right? If they had guns or at least the cops who came on the GO GREEN BIKES had them...less people would've died.

I don't own a gun. I have shot one before. I will never own one. Again, I'm not out to shoot or kill anyone, but if someone else owns one and shoots a robber...I'm not of the mindset that they're a savage. Don't rob.

You're probably also one of those people that think the atomic bombs on the Japanese (I am Japanese, by the way...half...which is no shock if you're just white...because that is what mainly forums are made up of...white...white...white pretending to care about minorities in their liberal world) was MEAN and awful and was a terrible idea.

The very people who think that have no idea how terrible and awful the Japanese were. They killed babies in mother's hands. Just stabbed them to death with their bayonets. Then they killed the mother. They killed children in front of their parents. Parents in front of their children. Raped any girl that they could get their hands on no matter if the girl was 9 or 12 or younger...or old, old, old. They were pure evil.

War is awful. I'm not on a high horse where I will point at solders and tell them they are terrible people for doing what they do. I know when I'm protected from things. I actually read more than that website or this website or watch the news on any given channel. Americans live in a bubble and so do Europeans and Australians. SO protected from the very things other countries go through daily. And they spout of stupid asinine things as if they are above all the grime.

Oh, you can hate the war movie, but I'm sure your hypocritical hatred doesn't hate a sex movie. Probably even like a sick pedophile movie like Lolita...or you (as anyone else) might have a justification as OMG it isn't.

People like you would crumble under every single government you think is being picked on by America. Yes, America is awful in what it does to people here at times. It's awful in what it has done in war with other countries, but in comparison to every single country the world over, America is the better choice of all the bad that is done. It's the least awful. Whether you like it or not.

And have some class. Mocking people's death is classless and douchey. If that's you, by all means don't let me stop you from being that wonderful.
