Posted: 8/3/07 at 1:33amI just saw a commerical for the awful movie, and the announcer describe it as a "musical" .... is it ? I didn't think it was. Or are they just capitalizing off the Hairspray audience.

Any movie where the lead characters sing is considered a musical; Walk The Line for instance...

Seeing as it also says something to the effect of "It will ahve parents and kids alike dancing.." I would say it is trying to do just that.

Hmm, that's odd

Posted: 8/3/07 at 2:34amI saw that too! I got really pissed. There's probably like 2 songs in the movie because of the talent show at the end.

Posted: 8/3/07 at 8:40amI saw it too! On ABC Family? That's where I saw it. They consider it a musical, and yet it's going to probably have one song.

I don't remember ever seeing it advertised as a musical until Hairspray started raking it in. Now I see the TV commercials calling it "The musical that will have you dancing in the aisles!"
It's like last year when 300 was a huge hit, they tried to make that one Viking battle movie look as much like it as possible to cash in on 300's audience...

Posted: 8/3/07 at 1:05pmI panicked when I saw the title, as if it was about to become a stage musical.

Posted: 8/3/07 at 8:29pmI read an excert of a review on Wikipedia, and the critic tore it to pieces. He said that Jon Voight was wasted talent in this movie.

Oh god, I saw that commercial too. A Bratz movie is bad enough. But a Bratz MUSICAL?! EWWWW. That just sounds god-awful. And I've never seen any other clips on the commercials of people singing, except for that stupid talent show scene. They just want the same success that Hairspray is having. But one scene with music in it does not make it a musical.
Somehow I don't think it would have me dancing in the aisles. Running through the aisles, maybe, to the exit.

Apparently there are a few Britney Spears-late 90's uber-pop musical performances in it.
But calling it a "musical" is the most deceiving bit of advertising I've ever seen.

This is from Wikipedia's entry for Bratz The Movie:
"The vast majority of reviews for the film have been extremely negative. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune called the film "the most horrifying of 2007", remarking that, while the film seems to promote "releasing what's inside" and "letting your spirit soar high" it's all about clothes and outer beauty. He also said that Jon Voight's talent is wasted: "the actor--a good actor; remember?--looks as dazed as he did after being horked up by the snake in "Anaconda." Ty Burr of The Boston Globe advised parents to rent Midnight Cowboy saying it would be "less damaging on their [the kids'] psyches than this soulless mallrat of a movie." A review by A.V. Club said in reference to the film "This is why the terrorists hate us."[5]
There have, however, been some positive reviews, such as Teresa Wiltz of the Washington Post who describes the film as "earnest, silly and sweet"[6], along with Adam Schubak of TV Guide who says "Although the film at times seems more a showcase for the trendy clothes specifically tailored for each character’s unique personality, it does convey a positive message about loyalty and friendship."[7] Paige Wiser of the Chicago Sun-Times also states that while it is a "Frivolous, and ultimately forgettable" film, that it is ultimately about high school tolerance. [8]
Bratz: The Movie currently holds a 9% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 20% user rating."

Posted: 8/5/07 at 12:47amI love how people insist on making more high school movies about cliques, I don't know where people go to school nowadays, but cliques aren't such a big problem. Movies keep showing little children extreme segregation that they will not really face once they get to school. It makes girls self-concious of how they look and about who their friends are when really as long as kids learn that in the end, if you and the "most popular" girl in school join the spanish club, you'll talk there.

Unfortunately, I had to sit through this rubbish. It is in no way a musical. It has pop songs, sung by talentless bimbo's who can barely string a sentence together.Never mind lyp-sync convincingly!I'm seeing 'Across the Universe' tomorrow.Lets hope it restores my faith.

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-
