No, I don't think SPAM is a lock at all. I honestly have never HATED a show before, and I hated Spam. Unless the reviews are real Monty Python fans, I think there are going to be mixed reviews.
Assuming Spamalot does get the nomination, I think they'll be against DRS, Chitty and Spelling Bee.

Lincoln Center is typically more low key, as befits a not-for-profit institution. They tend to rely more on reviews and word-of-mouth, than big splashy ad campaigns, especially since their shows are limited engagements that do well at the box office, generally, because of its large subscriber base. Look out for early reports to start rolling in when Piazza begins previewing next month.

*sighs* so close, yet so far away. Just when there's a chance I could go see this show, my friends basically shot it down. They want to see other things so my wants get brushed aside...oh well...maybe it'll be around next year! They better do a cast recording at least!

Oh ok, I didn't know anything about their rush except that they have $25 tickets for students 1 hour before curtain. So they don't have seats set aside for that? They only give out seats that weren't sold?
That's the rule for most rush seats, except for ones that have a lottery, I think. That's why I always rush shows that have less than 85% attendance- if I go on a weekday or especially a Wednesday matinee, there's a great chance I'll get a seat.
and they want to see Chitty or I love you you're perfect now change...both i wouldn't mind seeing, but Spelling Bee is on the top of my list...of course they never listen to me. I was the first to get into Bare and Avenue Q and they never believed me how great those shows were until I forced them to listen to the sampler (for Bare) and the Cast Recording (for Q)...so maybe by the time our NYC trip comes around I'll have convinced them

Wow, this news made my day. I saw the show at the Saturday matinee (Feb 20). I'm friends with a cast member and one of Finn's assistants/musicians. After that performance, neither knew about a transfer. In fact, we went out for coffee with the keyboardist and Bill Finn called her while we were out. He also said nothing, which means this news was TRULY last-moment yesterday. I imagine they found out before the night performance, which is certain to have energized them beyond doubt. As for the Tonys, this show will, without doubt, lock down nominations for Best Book, Score, Musical, Direction (That might not quite be a lock but look for Lapine to get it; he's done some really fun work here) and definitely expect either Fogler or Ferguson (if not both) to snag Featured Actor nominations (my money is on Fogler to win it at this point). As for Featured Actress, the best woman in this show is, without doubt, Lisa Howard. She's also working with less intriguing material (Besides those excellent one-liners she gets to toss out, especially about the 4 guest spellers) than the kids, but Sarah is hit-or-miss (especially once she has to start acting and singing at the same time) and Celia, who is knock 'em dead in her big song near the end (the trio), her character is REALLY bland. I would expect that her chances would have been much higher for a nom out of Piazza had she stayed with it. So, depending upon how they market her, Kelli O'Hara will pick up a Featured Actress nom (since I'm sure they're going to push for the oft-overlooked Victoria Clark as the lead there). Wow. We should just start a Tony prediction thread and get the fun rolling. With the late addition of Bee to the mix, what looked like such a two-way race to me has now opened up a world of possibilities.
They don't know anything about it and my one friend has only heard A New Brain from Finn and she likes that but doesn't think that the composer should be the whole basis for seeing a show. And I've tried telling her the plot and read her reviews and she just never listens to me...she'd rather see something she knows she's gonna like...but I know her and she'd love this if she gave it a chance, it's just getting her to give it a chance.
Right now we're going to see Dirty Rotten and Sweet Charity and lottoing RENT (cuz that's a tradition)...
I tell her that a bunch of people love it and that it's getting great reviews she's all "You can't go by reviews" grrrrrr i'm just getting frustrated. I'm half tempted to just convince my other friend going to go and leave her behind she can go see something she wants to see! I even offered to buy her her ticket and she still won't consider it!

I'd say just leave her behind if she doesn't wanna see it. Your gonna be mad at yourself if you don't. I mean, do you really need to see Rent for the umpteenth time?

well RENT thing we have to do, because we're going with a RENT virgin and I've never seen Cary and I really adore him, and it's Lotto...and we're meeting a friend in the city just to see that.
But we have one day left to see a show and this is the show I want to see...and if my other friend will go maybe we can all gang up and convince the stubbern one. I just hate it that she never listens to me about a show and then when she finally gives it a chance she's all obsessed about it. And i'm like "See I told you so..." I'm sure as soon as sound clips are released I might change her mind. If not then well she might be on her own and she can go see whatever she wants, because out of all the shows in NYC while we're there this is the one I want to see more than anything. Finn is amazing and I adore everything he's ever did and have always wanted to see something of his on/off broadway...this is my first shot and you're right I would kick myself if I didn't take this chance while I have it and it's not fair to me to give up what I want to do for the sake of one person.
