Margo, not only do I think the show has a good chance of getting nominated for Book and Score, I think it has a good chance of winning in those categories as well. I loved DRS and Spamalot, but both have obvious weaknesses in their books and scores. Spelling Bee has a very solid book, and many consider the score strong as well (though I thought it was not as strong as other Finn scores).

Dessa Rose is scheduled to run off-broadway through May. If it transfers, it will be eligible for 2006 tonys.

I wonder if there are talks about a cast recording. I guess they will wait now until they can make a Broadway recording. would one be worth getting?

yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay. you do not know how happy this makes me! i heard about this show in Barrington and have been wanting to see it forever and ever! now that's it moving to broadway i might have a chance!

i've really never been more excited! this has just made my day so great. i've known about this show forever it seems like and am still needing to go. i adore william finn. i feel like he has an extremely good chance at another tony. most definitely a nod. i would love to see another little-show-that-could on broadway succeeding. i'm sure that circle-in-the-square's location will help it immensely. all those families pouring out of wicked will hear of and see it. right? and anyone who doesn't win the wicked lottery might go there instead. i love it! i'm hoping for jesse and celia to grab noms.

This is really ridiculously exciting...I think it's close to a lock for the best book tony, will certainly be nominated for best score, and think it will kick Little Women/Chitty Chitty out of the fourth Best Musical slot. Really so exciting -- I hope this is a successful transfer!

Yeah, I think the only people not excited about this news are the producers of Little Women and Chitty, both of whom's chances for a Best Musical Tony nod (and an opportunity to perform on the show) have probably just gone from slim to none.

is spamalot really a lock for tony stuff? i can't be excited about it at all because i hate the monty python stuff and i've heard that if you don't know or don't liky mp, then the show is no good. i'm fairly sure that light and drs will get two, i feel like bee, little women, chitty and spam will be competing hardocore for the other two.

The show is pretty straightforward just like the title. If I asked you to guess what a show called "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" was about, I'd bet you'd say "A Spelling Bee In Putnam County". Well -- there ya go. It's a very clever musical about a middle school spelling bee.

If Spelling Bee is closing at Second Stage on March 20th, how soon would previews likely start at Circle in the Square? I'm in NYC the weekend of April 1st. Think I have a shot?

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they started the monday or tuesday immediately after that weekend -- who knows though.

The show has to be completely reblocked and relighted and adapted to work in and take advantage of Circle In The Square's thrust space. I'd give it a couple of weeks before I'd expect previews to start -- probably second week of April or so.

The 4 audience members is integral to the show and very much written into the book (and a clever, funny, spontaneous aspect of the First Act). It will certainly stay in and I imagine it'll work just as well at Circle in the Square..

WHAT exciting news! I need to get my trip scheduled so I can see this-- hopefully right before of after the Finn-Fest here in Chicago!
Isn't it great that we have a season that will be yielding MULTIPLE quality nominees for the top Tony slots? Those of us old enough to remember the dark years where we had categories with only 2 or 3 nominees can't help but thrilled we have an actual horserace for NOMINATIONS this year! The fabulous invalid is back on her feet!
