is it just me? but i think that pix is horrible! I think he's abit too thin in that pix to be Edna and what's wrong with the colour of the dress??? It's so bluee... is it just me?!?!?!

Unfortunately I could not get the photo up, so Brian Conley is not blacking himself up this time? However a adequate replacement.

He almost looks too good to be Edna. I've come across several women of a certain age who look like that.

I saw a few of these pictures at the new cast launch the other week... Liam Tamne looks rubbish at Link, but I have no doubt at all that he'll be a better actor and singer than Ben James Ellis. Conley said they've reduced the padding a little bit because Michael Ball's had back trouble.

I've always like Connelly so I hope he's good, I wont get to see him, though if Justin Lee Collins took over I might have to make my way back there!

But isn't that supposed to be the point - Edna is supposed to be so hideous and is played by a man because no real woman is ungainly enough to play her.

He's just too good looking as a woman - honestly - go to the Bradford Alhambra and every woman in the audience will look like that.

Edna isn't necessarily hideous though. She's fat, and she's insecure because she's fat. There's no real reason why she'd need to be hideous as well.

And she's played by a man 'cos Waters and/or Shaiman wanted a musical where the lead roles would be played by the fat girl and the crossdresser of the school.

Exactly Weez.
If Edna was portrayed in the musical the way Divine did, it wouldn't have lasted a few months.
The whole appeal of the Broadway musical is that it is now played by performers the public love and admire and will give a neighbor next door to the persona of Edna.
I love Divine and remember so many of his/her performances from the 80s, but even I don't want that performance in the musical.
Divine was a cult person who was on the border line of obsenity in the mainstream world of 80s music and film.
Even the playing of Divines records were banned from the radio.

Its not Micheal Ball is it......
