He's joined the cast of the LCT's revival of Macbeth, as Banquo! Good for him, great role.

Posted: 9/3/13 at 11:09pmI wish I could be more excited about Mr. James playing a witch in Jack O'Brien's MACBETH. Seriously, Mr. O'Brien couldn't find three women to play the witches in a show of 20 plus roles? Yes, the Hecate is played by a woman by the typically three women's roles in this production but outside of Hecate,Lady Macbeth and Lady Macduff, all the rest are men.

He's not playing a witch. He's playing Banquo.
The article clearly states: "Malcolm Gets, John Glover and Byron Jennings as the Three Witches"

Posted: 9/3/13 at 11:33pmObviously Mr O'Brien COULD have found 3 women to play the witches. He didn't want to, as having three men play the witches is part of his concept.

My bad, for not reading correctly what James is playing. But it's still lame that the roles of the witches are being played by men.

Wouldn't they be called Warlocks? No, I know you're right on this too. Although women do seem to predominate in the Craft overall, according to WICCAN. In fact, some traditions have only women practitioners, just as others have only men. A male Witch is simply called a Witch, never a warlock and it is considered an insult to call a male Witch "Warlock". The word "Warlock" actually means "oath breaker". Some traditions of Wicca separate between female/male. The word "Wicce" pronounced (Wik-kay) designates a female Witch and "Wicca" pronounced (Wik-kah) designates a male Witch.
Brian d'Arcy James will make an interesting Banquo.
