I've only been able to listen to a few if the tracks--but so far and it is AWESOME. There is a booklet with lyrics so you can follow the story--and it has gorgeous pictures.
Jamie is very caught up in the party/promiscuity/drug culture of the 80s. The story is a week in his life. His wife has left him, his mother has died and he's trying to reconnect with his brother. He dreamed of being a novelist and has to work as a fact checker for a magazine. He parties to forget...uses drugs to "feel". Some of lyrics are harsh and very common to that kind of subculture.
Yet, Patrick's tenor is so wonderful. He can rock...he can be wistful. He really sounds grand. The music is 80s rock style. So...it is different from Raoul/and ALW's music but that voice--it is definitely our Patrick.
The other cast members are incredibly fabulous, too--including Christine Ebersole, Eden Espinosa, Sherri Rene Scott, Gavin Creel and Jesse L. Martin (currently of "Law & Order)
JUST FYI: If you want to get an idea of the story, rent the movie that starred Michael J. Fox. The movie and this musical are based on the book.
Makes you wonder how some folks survived that kind of lifestyle--and helps you see why many didn't.

STILL waiting for my BLBC cd (which I preordered at the same time I ordered Billy Porter's cd which I also haven't gotten yet.) Does Sh-k-Boom always give such bad service?

Individual pre-orders for BLBC have begun to be shipped, as some of you already know.
The retail on-sale/release date is indeed June 21st.
The BWW.com review will be published to coincide with the release date.

Okay. I'm in Reading, PA and STILL have not gotten the cd.
What the heck?
All I have to say is:
I HATE THE FRENCH! I HATE THE FRENCH! I HATE THE FRENCH!
..*Giggles* That part had me laughing my ass off.
I think I'm in love... This CD is amazing. So much vocal talent, Patrick Wilson especially. My favorite track might have to be 21. Camera Wall, as Patrick is wonderful here, but then again, I absolutely love anything with Gavin Creel.
And I can't forget the music and lyrics... I wish I could have seen a performance of this!
This CD will be stuck in my CD player for a long while I'm afraid.
(i've been listening to this CD like constantly all weekend...i'm so in love with it!!!)
I talked to Celia Keenan Bolger (Mary O'Brian McCann) at Bennigan's Broadway Bash tonight and she kind of clarifyed her part for me. Jamie sees her picture on a milk carton as a missing person. he also sees Coma Baby (Eden) on a tabloid. and throughout the show, they both kind of haunt Jamie. Coma Baby is being born and coming out into the world while Mary is missing and eventually dies. it seems very symbolic.
oh, and this is Celia's first CD and she was soo happy i like it!
