Shuler Hensley would be an amazing judge actually. But I think someone a lot older, similar to the concert version with Hearn and LuPone would work better.
This is why my vote is for Terrance Mann.
Any casting for Johanna? I think Kristin Chenoweth could be incredible. And in my opinion, there are two ways to play this role: the usual ingenue; like Lisa Vroman played it, and the insane young girl who's been trapped her whole life; the way Betsy Joslyn played it.
Chenoweth would do a bit of both, I think. She'd be great.

I think Chenoweth as Joanna too.
Well, my cast is :
Sweeney Todd-Brian Stokes Mitchell
Mrs.Lovett-Patti Lupone
Begger Woman-Marin Mazzie
Anthony-Peter Lockyer
Joanna-Kristin Chenoweth
Judge-Shuler Hensley
Wow, if this cast comes true, I will be the happiest one in the world!

Hmm --- a few casting possibilities that I'd love to see:
Sweeney Todd - Kevin Kline / Terrence Mann
Mrs. Lovett - Megan Mullaly (sp?) / Carol Shelley
Tobias Ragg - How about Michael Arden? Or me of course.
Anthony Hope - Gavin Creel maybe?
Johanna - I agree about Kristen
Judge Turpin - Kelsey Grammar
and I think the rest would fare better with unknowns.
Just a few quick thoughts off the top o' me 'ead!

Posted: 2/1/05 at 11:01amI saw Stokes as Sweeney Todd 3 years ago. I have to say that as a huge Sweeney Todd and Stokes fan, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. His singing and vocal tone were great, but he wasn't convincing. You know that "glare" he gives like in Ragtime, it just didn't work here. He seemed preoccupied onstage. But, I was BLOWN AWAY by Christine Baranski as Mrs. Lovett.

But I pretty much agree with the rest of your cast Sanda. Shuler Hensley as Sweeney would also be a good idea.
