Brits Off-Broadway @ 59E59

I saw Toast, by the author of One Man, Two Guvnors. The actors were very good, but their accents took some adjusting to. It takes place in a bakery, and examines the interrelationships between the workers there. The first act is fairly slow going, but interest picks up after intermission. On the whole, I'd call it fair. But if you're looking for another One Man, Two Guvnors, you won't find it here.

Bandit,

59 E 59 puts on some really interesting work, and over time, some of the best plays I've seen in New York.

A8 - Thanks for the thoughtful response.  I think I'm gonna have to go check it out.  And thanks for what you said re: 59E59.  I need to keep up more with what their putting on.  I don't have too much $$ for theatre, so I try to choose my shows wisely.  I've done well the past 2 years only being disappointed with LCT3's Her Requiem.

I am seeing "Radiant Vermin" this week. Really looking forward to it. My first Brits off-Broadway show and first time at 59E59. Have been wanting to see a show there for years.

Really enjoyed Radiant Vermin. Nice and twisted. Amazing cast amd the Birthday party scene is out of control fabulous. I suggest seeing it. Much different than Mercury Fur but has much of the same impact. The 95 minutes flew by.

Well I haven't seen it, but Confusions, like most Ayckbourn work, is really really fantastic (on paper)

It didn't come off very well on stage. His newest play was very good, though.

As for Radiant Vermin, it offered some amusement at first, but soon became repetitious and throughly boring. The splendid actors worked as hard as possible to pull it off. I wish they had been given better material.

Even knowing the play was done on a bare stage with just the two actors and a third appearing a few times, after seeing "Mercury Fur" I was expecting something a bit more shocking. I realized that wasn't going to happen about 20 minutes in so settled in and still really enjoyed it. Met and chatted with the cast for a while after the show. Sçarlett and Sean are married in real life and have a young child.
