Menzalists? Group prayer?
I really like Idina, but oh man...I guess I didn't realize it got this uh, intense.

Posted: 8/6/04 at 1:25pmSounds like a cult? I mean yea great for these kids, but I'd be scared for Idina's safety if she were to walk in.

"I'd be walking in the hall singing lyrics from `Wicked,' " she said, "and people would be, like, `Dork!'"
YES - if anybody walked the halls singing lyrics from Wicked then they'd be ridiculed. How can she expect to be accepted into a school situation if she's not prepared to mix with other kids in a normal way? Moving schools is not the solution! Changing into a sane human being is. "I believe in Idina" - that is such a joke. Argh. 90% of these kids can't see beyond the bright dazzling lights of 'being Sutton Foster' or 'KRISTIN!!', when are they going to grow up and see the real side of working in the theatre industry. Gah.

Ethan as Belle?
Also, this may be a bit controversial, but should children be praying to someone else besides God, depending on their beliefs? The article says they were praying to her, which was a little weird...

Well, no wonder Idina runs away from the stage door as quickly as possible.

Posted: 8/6/04 at 9:39pmHaha. That was something. I'm sure Idina loves 12 year olds fawning over her. It must be awfully flattering.

Posted: 8/6/04 at 9:48pmHehe...I found that article hilarious when I encountered it in the Times this morning. Just the way they kept going back to the Menzelist thing was amusing. The writer was completely making fun of them, while trying to objectively tell about the camp. I sure hope I wasn't that crazy when I was 15 years old and had just gotten into theatre(ah RENT, my first obsession...that I still love 7 years later).

Posted: 8/7/04 at 1:56amHAHA! That's my camp! I was there this week, and today was our last day. I had two singing solos and some lines in "The Pajama Game" and that man on the right, Javier Munoz was my counselor---he's an incredible performer. My spoof was a combination of Cabaret and Annie to create "Cabarannie" and I played the Emcee. It really is an amazing program.

I was at the camp the week the article was written - i'm in two of the pictures - Ethan is my friend we were in the same group for our skit where the beast sold belle to the middle east resulting in the showstopper Be Our Slave - yes that's my gold belle dress - we decided why not when we had only one boy why not give him the girl part rather than fight over it
sad to say the reporter only talked to six kids the whole time - three of whom are quoted - ethan and tiffany loved idina and in a kind of joking way made up a prayer to her - but believe me that was not the whole camp - me? i would have picked susan egan - we all had our favorites and our dream roles - too bad they weren't all represented
in all honesty - the program was the best experience i've ever had - i reccomend it to all serious actors - "menzelist" or not lol

Posted: 8/8/04 at 11:03pmI was in Camp Broadway last year. Tons of fun in rehearsals AND we got to meet the entire OBC of Hairspray. And Ethan's my buddy so don't nobody be dissing him. He's an AMAZING dancer.

Posted: 8/9/04 at 12:39amI used to work at Camp Bway and it's more a camp for crazy obsessive Broadway fans than kids with tons of talent who actually have a future in that. I had a group of 10-13 year olds and they were all pretty normal, it's the 14-17 year old group that were all a little bit crazy! If you go to that camp, you want to be in the master class, NOT the regular camp, haha. It's like day care for future crazies. There are some talented kids who go there...but you'll find that most of the talented kids are at places like Stage Door while the future crazies go here.

Posted: 8/9/04 at 9:04ami'd disagree - i think that there were a ton of talented kids in the camp - at least this july in the 14-17 group, but you're right - the master class, though not as performance based and constant fun, really was more serious, challenging, and educational - but i think both programs were amazing
