Chicago. Then came Cabaret, then Gypsy. . . and the list goes on and on.
The show that originally sparked in 3rd or 4th grade when we went to a matinee of a local high school's production of Hello Dolly! It was magical I tell you! It remained dormant from then until I got into high school because there was really not much to feed it through my middle school years, but then exploded in high school.

Proably my first show, Lion King. I always loved to go into the city to see a show. Phantom of the Opera was the first show I went to and liked allot. What really got me into Broadway was my dad's TDF account.
Les Miz.
West Side Story was the first musical I ever saw but it didn't make me like musicals (even though I loved the show). Phantom of the Opera was the first cast recording I ever bought and it is why I am on this message board today.

Would you believe
THEY'RE PLAYIN' OUR SONG (on tour in San Francisco)
then I saw
SOPHISTICATED LADIES (on Broadway)
and I have been in love since....
Peter Pan...I think that was 3rd grade...and then Beauty and the Beast which was 5th grade.

peter pan and cats were my first 2 shows. But i was 16 when i saw my first broadway show the lion king. Since 2000 I have seen 13 shows on broadway, one of the greatest places on earth.
Joseph and the amazing...
Beauty and the Beast sealed the deal though.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is the show i give most credit to because its the first Broadway show i saw and that started my addiction to the shows and New cd's and stuff. Now im obsessed. Ive always loved musicals and grew up listening to them. Esp. Sound of Music

First show I ever did :) (odd, I know)
I saw Cats with school.
But what got me hooked was when the TV show Head of the Class did Little Shop of Horrors, and I realized it was a real show...and movie...I rented the movie and other musicals...and then I was hooked.
The show that first really got me into theatre was Stones in his Pockets which I saw on Broadway when I was about 10 or 11. I didn't get into musicals until years later when I was a freshman in high school and my school did Les Mis.
Cabaret...my jaw was on the floor...my seat was wet...I saw it four more times after that.

RENT was my first Broadway show. I realized that this was what I wanted to do during "I'll Cover You: Reprise", but looking back, all of my favorite movies when I was little had themes of theatre, dance, and music. So, I guess it was in me since then, I just never fully realized it. I saw tons of children's theatre and loved it, but never went "Oh my god, this is it." Until RENT.
Annie started it when I was young but as Blair said Rent was it for me!

I've ALWAYS loved Broadway, but I never had the chance to go see anything. My parents got me into it because they saw the original cast of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on B'way and they freaked out (especially my father... he was a singer and he LOVED Michael Crawford as Phantom). So I had always listened to the cast recording on tape since I was really little. Then recently, I was working at a dinner theater and they had a cabaret. A man and woman performed "Suddenly, Seymour" and I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it. I looked it up and saw it was from LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, which sounded vaguely familiar, and I got the recording, then watched the movie and the rest is history!
The first show I actually got to see on Broadway, however, was THE LION KING. Phenomenal.

I had always loved movie musicals such as west side story and grease. I saw a high school production of west side when i was in fifth grade and wanted to be anita more than anything in the world. The first broadway musical i saw was annie get your gun, but it was Rent that really changed my life and made me come back to broadway again and again.
