I believe it's sponsored by Broadway Cares so you might check with them.

Yes, I did check their site but all the information is regarding the 2002 event.
My perfect day would begin at on the beach in Hana, Maui and end at a Broadway Musical.

BC/EFA usually posts about the Flea Market closer to the event, which will probably be around August, because the Flea Market is in September.

I will confirm the September 21st date with BC/EFA, but I figure if I am planning my next Broadway excursion, I mind as well plan it around another fun event such as this Broadway Flea Market.

What exactly is the Broadway Flea Market? I've never heard of it here on the ol' West Coast.

the flea market is great fun and i am looking forward to it this year. here it is, as described from the bc/efa website:
"The Broadway Flea Market, held each September in Shubert Alley, brings out the biggest and brightest stars from Broadway, Off-Broadway, Dance and daytime television to greet fans and sell memorabilia. Casts and company members of dozens of shows are joined by theatrical unions and guilds, producing organizations, local merchants, and many other groups to sell costume pieces, autographs, original scripts, rare photographs, and so much more. The event also includes the Celebrity Table, where celebrities gather throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for photos in exchange for donations. The highlight of the Flea Market is the Grand Auction, in which singular items and opportunities such as walk-on roles in Broadway shows, television programs and films are available to the highest bidder."

I was intrigued when I heard that at the last Flea Market, The Producers sold something called "The Producers in a Bag". Small props from various scenes throughout the performance. Unique items like that are fun to collect!

People were there 2 and 3 hours before it started myself included... the RENT table ...i cant even explain people made deals with others to grab costume pieces and trade everything was gone in a matter of 35 seconds lol. Im excited for this year though because with all the new shows there should be some fun stuff.

Amneris,
Thanks for the warning, so if the Flea Market were to start at 9:00am, we should be there by 6:00 am and be ready to scheme, push, haggle and overpay. In other words, it's just like everyday in Manhattan!

The best thing I've picked up from the Flea Market was a pineapple used in Cabaret. I have to keep it in a bag because the glitter gets everywhere, but I love it.

Okay, I'll be there and probably empty my bank account... but that's just fine. I can live without food for a few weeks, right?

An idea! How about creating Broadway.com pins, similiar to the Logo!
Then if members of this Message Board were to attend the Broadway Flea Market or other such Broadway event, we would be able to identify other BW.com members. That way if we saw a someone wearing a BW.com pin we would be able to introduce ourselves. It would be one casual way to cross paths in the real world at Broadway events.
What do you think, good or bad idea?

Oooh Daisy it'll WELL be worth it... just get there early. I know I will be crashing in the city the night before. I can never seem to get up early enough to get there with enough time to catch the REALLY good stuff! I didn't get there till almost 4pm last year (this was me dropping packing everything to move to come in for it :)) so I didn't really buy anything, but I took some great pics with the chicago cast and with Jennifer Holliday :) For that alone it was well worth it. Alas, with Chicago up at the stupid Ambassador (yes, yes I am bitter) there will be no Chicago Cast in costume picture this year
It's all good though, because Melanie will still be in the cast and it would be impossible to get anywhere near them... yeah hi, this is me beating a dead horse with my aggrivation....
Where was I again?
Coinsidentally, is anyone going to Stars in the Alley? I'll be there!

Here's a tip:
If you wait til the end, you can get a lot of the stuff at a lower price because by that time the people are just looking to get rid of everything....not that you shouldn't buy things early also. It's just that you can haggle towards the end of the day.

that's true, but in recent years anything worth haggling over has been gone already :)
