I have mixed feelings about this. I suspect the Times Square tourists will be more about gawking than buying.

It was outrageously crowded last year, so I'm looking forward to there being more room, but Times Square obviously isn't a desert.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

If it allows them to spread out more that will be wonderful. The only potential problem is that it exponentially adds people to the melee who will be there having no idea what's going on and will cause traffic and access problems for the hardcore theatre fans.

I agree! I am very excited and I agree that it is a very smart move to do for sales, although the tourists will be a problem.

Let us join hands and pray that this will only last for this year and our beloved Flea Market will return to its previous stomping grounds next year.

What I would really love is if it was a horseshoe with 44th, 45th and Shubert Alley.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
